Vettel has an awful lot of ground to make up if he is keep this championship alive.
He is 60 seconds behind second.
At the front, Max Verstappen holds an 11-second lead ahead of Valtteri Bottas, with Kimi Raikkonen a further 23 seconds behind in his Ferrari.
Vettel's next target is Sergio Perez's Force India, who is currently sixth.
"Alright, son, I'll take it easy," says Verstappen as he is told to try to just match Bottas' pace.
"Are the ultras going to go all the way?" Lewis Hamilton asks about his title rival Sebastian Vettel's new tyre strategy.
"It is likely he will get to the end," he is calmly told.
Hamilton is on the super-softs, while Vettel is now on the ultra-softs, which, in theory, should be quicker.
Sebastian Vettel dives in the inside of Kevin Magnussen and that is another place done for Vettel, who sits seventh now. Hamilton, meanwhile, jumps past Pascal Wehrlein in 14th.

There is absolutely no way Hamilton will want to win the world championship by finishing out of the points.
We are at the halfway point of this race, a race no-one could have predicted. It is thrilling, edge-of-the-seat stuff.
Vettel, on the ultra-softs, has half of the race to go from eighth into the top two or Lewis Hamilton, down in 15th, is the world champion.
Brendon Hartley walks back to the garage, and luckily he managed to haul himself out of his on-fire Toro Rosso extremely quickly and he looks unhurt.

Normally you lose 21.5 seconds for a pit stop if it is at full speed.
Under the virtual safety car you lose half of that.
Hamilton took advantage to get on to the alternative strategy. He was struggling on the soft tyre and is now on the super soft which is six or seven tenths quicker.
Sebastian Vettel also comes in, it is ultra-softs for him. Will it help him get up to second?
If Vettel comes second, the title race moves on to Brazil if Hamilton comes 10th or worst.
Lewis Hamilton comes in to the pits and now has super-soft tyres on to his car, which might make him a bit happier.
Remember, no overtaking at the moment under the virtual safety car following that fire to Brendon Hartley's Toro Rosso.

Sebastian Vettel is on a surge, he has just moved ahead of Fernando Alonso down the start-finish straight up to eighth.
It won't be enough for the German as he needs a minimum finish of second.
Lewis Hamilton has managed to finally get past Carlos Sainz and also Pascal Wehrlein to sit 16th out of the 18 running.
Race leader Max Verstappen says he can see 'blistering on his left tyre', but the Red Bull team are not worried.
He is just under eight seconds clear of Valtteri Bottas, while Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari is now third, ahead of Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen.
Home favourite Sergio Perez is seventh.

Lewis Hamilton may end the day as world champion. It's fair to say he's not enjoying this race one bit though.
These are the top 10, but the real story today is what is happening with Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.
Vettel has hauled himself up to 10th, Hamilton is the last running in 18th with Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg out of the race.

A chance for points has slipped through the fingers of Renault's Nico Hulkenberg. He was eighth, but has to pull over to the side of the track.
"Stop the car please Nico, the car is not safe, you need to get out," says a very worrying message from Renault.

Hamilton just doesn't have the grip.
"I can't get close to a car." Lewis Hamilton again on the team radio, as the Brit now has to get out of the way of team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who is running second.
Remember, Hamilton has only finished outside of the top five once this season, when he came seventh in Monaco.
