  2. No pressure on relaxed Hamiltonpublished at 12:02 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

Has Lewis Hamilton taken his foot off the gas just that little bit again this year, just as he did after winning the title in 2015? He says not, but there seems little doubt that the world champion performs at his best under pressure.

There is precious little of that for Hamilton this weekend, but as he made clear on Thursday after arriving here, he is not keen on seeing his erstwhile title rival Sebastian Vettel end the season on two straight wins. Hamilton was very complimentary about team-mate Valtteri Bottas’ qualifying lap, after his own was compromised by going the wrong way on set-up.

And one senses Hamilton might not mind the Finn winning so much. “Ultimately winning the championship is the one,” Hamilton said, when asked how important it was to him to win the race. “Now it is about trying to finish on a high. Having a one-two is great and that’s the goal. If we are able to finish minimum where we’re starting, it’s going to be a good result.”

  3. Hamilton v Vettelpublished at 12:00 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

We were hoping today would be the thrilling title decider between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. With Hamilton winning five times in a six-race spell, and Vettel failing to finish in two of those it was not to be as the Englishman surged clear to win it in Mexico.

But this is how the top two compare.

  4. 1. 'Vettel just turned into me'published at 11:56 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

In the world of Formula 1, things often get heated in the high-pressure environment of the race track.

But luckily we get to listen to it all, and it can be more entertaining than the races. Well, sometimes.

So here are the best moments of team radio from the 2017 Formula 1 season.

There is only one place to start. One of the most bizarre moments of the season came in the Azerbaijan GP when a petulant Sebastian Vettel unleashed his inner child by deliberately driving into Lewis Hamilton, after he claimed the Brit had "brake-tested" him.

"Vettel just came alongside and turned into me," said a baffled Hamilton.

  7. Pride is at stake with little to losepublished at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer at Yas Marina

The sun is setting on the 2017 Formula 1 season - both figuratively and literally - in Abu Dhabi.

Just over eight months, 20 grands prix, and the weariness is showing on the people in the paddock. The fact the championship was tied up two races ago has heightened the sense for many of this being a weekend to get through, but there are still two hours of motor racing to go, and this race still means something for many drivers up and down the pit lane.

Not least, this afternoon, the man on pole position and the two or three right behind him. The title race is over, but Valtteri Bottas, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and the rest mean business. Pride is at stake and for most there is little to lose. So they will go for it as they always do.
