Lewis Hamilton is still just over one second behind Valtteri Bottas. If there is to be any last-day excitement, it could well be coming from those two.

Elsewhere, Max Verstappen is less than two seconds behind Kimi Raikkonen in the battle for fourth.

I think we are seeing that Mercedes don't really want Hamilton and Bottas to fight. They want Bottas to win this race.

'Absolutely gutted'. Renault's Twitter account sums up the feelings of everyone connected with the team after a pit stop error led to Carlos Sainz retiring from the race.

Back at the front, and the top three are the top three that started, with Valtteri Bottas first, Lewis Hamilton one second behind in second position and Sebastian Vettel having an uneventful race in third.

Lance Stroll could be the next to have to quit. He is trundling along and has just been overtaken by Marcus Ericsson.

The Canadian is 18th out of 18 cars running. The two out, just to remind you, are Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz.

Renault's hopes of moving above Toro Rosso are in Nico Hulkenberg's hands.

He is sixth, and on course for eight points so that would still be enough for Renault if he can finish in this position as the Toro Rossos of Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly are 15th and 16th respectively.

There wasn't that much pressure. Renault had a bit of time to spare but the mechanics just didn't get that front wheel on properly.

  9. Sainz outpublished at Lap 33 of 55

Disaster for Renault. Carlos Sainz's race is over.

"One of the wheels is not on."

He had just pitted, one of the wheels was not attached properly, and Sainz almost crashed on the exit to the pit lane.

He comes out on to the circuit and immediately regrets it. He has to stop straight away. Renault's hopes of jumping over Toro Rosso might have just self-destructed.

  11. Hamilton's first mistakepublished at Lap 32 of 55

    Tom Clarkson
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

That is the first obvious mistake that Hamilton has made this weekend.

It is quite blustery. We have seen mistakes at that point of the lap. These cars are so sensitive to gusts of wind.

  12. Postpublished at Lap 31 of 55

A little wobble, and a rare mistake from Lewis Hamilton sees him run a bit wide. But it is not too serious, and he still has his team-mate in his sights.

And things could get even worse for Toro Rosso.

They are sixth in the constructors', heading behind Renault at the moment. Haas, in eighth, are six points adrift of Toro Rosso, but Romain Grosjean is now up to 10th, and on course for a point after starting in 16th.

If Grosjean can edge his way a few places higher then there will be some very anxious faces at Toro Rosso.

  14. Listen again: Ricciardo retires after hydraulic failurepublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

A sorry end to the season for Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

  15. Postpublished at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

Renault are heading for sixth in the constructors' championship at the moment.

They are currently four points behind Toro Rosso, but both of those cars are currently out of the points with Carlos Sainz heading for six points as he is seventh, one place in front of Nico Hulkenberg, who will pick up four points if he stays in his eight spot.

  16. 'Hamilton motivated by statistics'published at Lap 28 of 55

    Tom Clarkson
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

I don't think Hamilton needs to prove anything to Bottas. There is a mutual respect between these two.

I think Hamilton is motivated by statistics. He has got qualifying record and I think he has Michael Schumacher in his sights and that is why he wants to win this grand prix.

  17. Postpublished at Lap 28 of 55

Esteban Ocon is currently taking the spot of 'best of the rest'. He has had three top-six finishes in the last four races and is on course for another one as he is sixth.

  18. Will Mercedes let Hamilton and Bottas race?published at Lap 27 of 55

    Tom Clarkson
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

We could end up with a fascinating situation because, if Friday practice is anything to go by, Hamilton will be fastest of two Mercedes drivers on these tyres.

If Hamilton has extra pace he will be right with Bottas and how genuine a battle will we get at the end of this grand prix?

  19. Postpublished at Lap 26 of 55

Are we going to have a thrilling race between the two Mercedes drivers? Valtteri Bottas is just one second faster than the world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Sebastian Vettel is a further 11 seconds behind in a distant third.

  20. Postpublished at Lap 25 of 55

Twenty-five laps gone and we have 19 of the 20 cars still running, with Daniel Ricciardo, yet again, the unlucky man at having to retire.
