Why bring Hamilton into the pits? He was quicker than Bottas on those tyres.

I smell a rat. I think Mercedes want Bottas to win this grand prix and that is why they pitted Hamilton when they did.

Hamilton pits, a stop of 2.4 seconds, but he returns to the track behind team-mate Valtteri Bottas. Hamilton had been posting some good times, so might not be too happy at that pit stop.

Fernando Alonso jumps up in front of Felipe Massa. Alonso, 15th in the drivers' championship, is 11th in this race hoping for only his fifth points finish of the season.

Daniel Ricciardo, who had qualified in fourth place, scrambles out of his car with his season ending in a miserable fashion.

Red Bull are set to be holding contract talks with Ricciardo in the winter, with the Australian's current deal up at the end of next season.

This retirement, his sixth of 2017, and his third in four races, will not help those contract talks one bit.

  7. Frustration for Ricciardopublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 26 November 2017

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

What is very frustrating for Daniel Ricciardo is he was in a close fight for fourth, if he cares, with Kimi Raikkonen just seven points behind in the drivers' championship.

If Kimi finishes in his current fourth place he will take fourth in the championship.

  8. Ricciardo outpublished at Lap 21 of 55

"We have got a hydraulic problem we have to switch off, sorry about that," Daniel Ricciardo is told.

Our best action is coming in the midfield drivers at the moment.

Romain Grosjean has just got the jump on to an unexpecting Nico Hulkenberg at turn one, but the advantage does not last long as the Renault man returns to 11th.

  12. 'Hamilton should roll the dice'published at Lap 19 of 55

    Tom Clarkson
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator in Abu Dhabi

How much do Mercedes want Lewis Hamilton to win this?

If they were fighting for the championship they would bring Hamilton in. He is not getting the DRS advantage.

There is a massive gap between Ricciardo fourth and Hulkenberg in fifth. If Hamilton pitted he would come out there and have clear track in front of him.

I would roll the dice now and see if he can get ahead of Bottas but Mercedes may want Bottas to win this race and see if he can get second place in the championship.

  13. 'Like driving a rally car'published at Lap 19 of 55

"This is like driving a rally car," says an unhappy Stoffel Vandoorne. That rally car is down in 20th, and last place, at the moment.

  14. Gasly spinspublished at Lap 18 of 55

Terrible scenes for Toro Rosso as Pierre Gasly spins around and is left facing the wrong way.

"Car OK?" he is asked. "I lost the rear completely," said Gasly, who is able to carry on.

It has been a woeful weekend so far and that sees him drop down to 17th. Toro Rosso are in sixth in the constructors' championship, but could well fall to eighth.

Still no change in the top 12 places. Not the spectacular end to the season we were hoping for so far, but there is a long, long way to go so stay with us.
