The French Grand Prix weather forecast: "60% rain possibility for race, more likely around 5pm local time and later - 1-2 showers likely with a high chance of thunderstorms. Showers should develop around 2-3pm and reach the vicinity of the circuit around 5.30pm." So it could be too late to make a difference to the race, which starts at 4.10pm local time, or 15:10 BST.

Whatever happened to overtaking? It was almost non-existent in both Monaco and Canada - and the general consensus is that there won't be very much drama today either unless it rains.

Alain Prost, the last driver to win a French Grand Prix at Circuit Paul Ricard in 1990, was downbeat when he spoke to BBC Radio 5 live's Jennie Gow yesterday.

"I am not very optimistic for this weekend," he said. "We are not in the best situation with the show. It depends a lot on the tyres and the way you use the tyres. If everybody has the same strategy, then you will have a boring race."

  4. No procession here, pleasepublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 24 June 2018

The Tour de France is cycling's ultimate test. Yet the final stage, culminating in a race to the line down the Champs Elysees, is usually just a procession.

Well, France can have its sporting procession next month. Let's not have one at Le Castellet today, eh?
