  2. Can Max delight his fans?published at 14:02 British Summer Time 26 August 2018

Belgium-born Max Verstappen first competed in the Belgian Grand Prix in 2015 for Toro Rosso when he finished eighth.

A year later, now at Red Bull, he qualified second but finished 11th after an opening lap collision with the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel, before a power unit issue saw him retire on lap five last year.

Radio 5 live Formula 1 commentator

So many action packed races! This championship just keeps on giving, spectacular qualifying worth wet and dry, Hamilton said it’s never been a tougher season and yesterday’s qualifying was the toughest so far.

It’s a long blast all the way up the hill on the Kemmel Straight and that's where Vettel will be going for it.

Chris_Mea: My concern isn't Vettel getting past Hamilton but Ocon and Perez tangling and causing chaos.

Michael Forrester: The rain has certainly helped Lewis and Mercedes stay in the title race. Ferrari superior pace been nullified during qualifying and races. Makes for an interesting weekend. #bbcf1, external

  5. A very important opening lappublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 26 August 2018

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer in Spa

The start and first five corners could decide this race. Lewis Hamilton’s big concern will be getting drafted by Sebastian Vettel up the Kemmel straight into Les Combes.

Last year, Vettel nearly managed it, but clever driving by Hamilton held him off and Vettel hit a wall of air when he dived out from behind the Mercedes. But this year the Ferrari is less draggy, and faster on the straight, so it is going to be harder to hold the German off. And there is a strong headwind, which means a bigger slipstream.

If Vettel gets Hamilton into Les Combes and leads by the end of the lap one, that could be race done. The stakes are high indeed.

  10. Hamilton welcomes title pressurepublished at 13:52 British Summer Time 26 August 2018

Sebastian Vettel and Lewis HamiltonImage source, AFP

Lewis Hamilton says he welcomes the pressure of his intense title fight with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, with the Mercedes driver 24 points ahead of the German.

There are nine races of the season left as Hamilton aims for his fifth title.

"I can't tell you how Sebastian feels with the pressure. I can only tell you the pressure on me. It's as great as it can be. But I wouldn't want it any other way," he said.

"As humans, pressure leads us to try to do extraordinary things, to evolve, to push the envelope, to be better in all areas."

  11. How they standpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 26 August 2018

A 24-point lead for Lewis Hamilton going into this one. It already looks a two-horse race for the world title, with neither Raikkonen or Bottas winning a race in 2018.

    DriversImage source, .

A very good chance for Esteban Ocon, who is still sweating on his Formula 1 future with Lance Stroll probably heading to Force India after his dad led a takeover of the team, to jump into the top 10.

He may not have a drive next year yet, but today he starts third...

Considering the Renault man is almost at the back because of grid penalties and the fact he is in, well, a Renault, then just imagine the carnage we would have to see over the next few hours if the Hulk is to get his first podium finish.

  14. Simple strategypublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 26 August 2018

    Andrew Benson
BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer in Spa

No questions about strategy today. It’s a one-stop for everyone. Most will choose the super-soft for the first stint and then switch to the soft, but the medium is not really any different in terms of pace in the race.

For those outside the top 10, there is the possibility of going the other way, and having the faster super-soft at the end on a lighter car. The only question mark is whether there is blistering on the super-softs necessitating an early stop. It’s still a one-stop, though. First stops? Pirelli says 16 laps on the super-softs. The teams say more, as usual.

  16. A sixth successive podium finish for Raikkonen?published at 13:41 British Summer Time 26 August 2018

If he gets in the top three the Finn will becomes only the fifth man to achieve 100 podium finishes and it is something only previously achieved by Michael Schumacher (155), Lewis Hamilton (126), Alain Prost (106) and Sebastian Vettel (106).

Kayleigh: Spa 2012 is a fave. JB had a pretty decent weekend! Hoping for both McLaren to just finish today. Seb to win and get about 63 more points than Lewis. Maybe a cheeky little Racing Point podium?!

Jeremiah Kariuki: Unless Hamilton gets clumsy with the start or gets mechanical issues, Vettel will find it hard even with the slip stream. Hamilton will be aware of that and will be out to defend to turn one and the subsequent turns. Thus the tow may not work. Would be interesting to see the two Racing Point Force India cars gunning down for the lead to turn 1! That would also spice it up and give a scare to the two leading drivers.
