Lewis Hamilton’s near-miss with Sergey Sirotkin was one of the key moments of an eventful qualifying session on Saturday.

The stewards did not investigate the incident - in which Hamilton swerved to get out of the way of the Russian’s Williams, but ended up going in the same direction as Sirotkin had and forcing him to take avoiding action - because it was a misunderstanding on an out-lap.

Hamilton labelled Sirotkin “disrespectful” on Saturday, saying he had ignored the convention where drivers on out laps all drive in a manner to ensure the queue stays in order and they create gaps between each other for their flying laps.

But on Sunday he retracted that, saying on Instagram: “I woke this morning feeling I should correct some of the words I used yesterday. I was wrong. It wasn’t a disrespectful move by Sergey. It was a misunderstanding and I honestly attempted to get out of his way. Didn’t work that well but I respect the way he handled it.”

We are back, for race day in Sao Paulo.

The rival pair of Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton are back on the front row today, and since the drivers' championship is already decided, they can take some more risks, but not too many more as they might get a back hand from their team bosses for throwing away the big pot of money, otherwise known as the constructors' championship.
