    Alonso's greatest moments

As Hamilton unusually foundered in the wet early laps at the Nurburgring, Ferrari's Felipe Massa appeared on course for a routine victory from Alonso once the track had dried.

But a late-race rain shower forced the leaders into the pits for intermediate tyres and Alonso caught the Brazilian and passed him with a stunning move around the outside of Turn Five, the pair banging wheels as he did it, leading to a post-race shouting match.

It was a brilliant win, and it set the stage for the controversy of Hungary next time out.

Kayleigh: It’s the last race of the season. :'( I’ve booked the day off work, I’m ready for all the crazy action! The only team orders I want to hear today are for Ham to let Bot through. Points for Alonso and Vandoorne too please Abu Dhabi, let's have ya.

Kayleigh, the BBC F1 desk salutes you.

J: Next year's championship will be much more exciting, with Gasly, Leclerc and Max all in top cars. Also with Norris and Russell joining, and with Kvyat returning, F1 should be the most exciting in years. Time for the Old Guard to go.

Jeremiah Kariuki: Red Bull with Honda in 2019 may not be a big assurance to them being competitive. We could have Mercedes and Ferrari at the top, then Red Bull, Haas, Renault and Sauber fighting for the best of the rest.

Thomas Perrett: If Bottas fails to win today, it'll be the first time a Mercedes driver has gone a whole season without a race win since 2012!!

Bottas, I'm sure, will look back at Azerbaijan and Russia with a sense of ruefulness.

If the race at Yas Marina ends up being a bit of a snoozefest, then maybe Instagram will liven up proceedings - plus our live text commentary, of course.

That's because Hollywood megastar Will Smith is a guest in Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes garage, going behind the scenes and filming it all for his (and Hamilton's) Instagram stories.

Smith said to spend the day at a Grand Prix with the five-time world champion was a goal on his 50th birthday bucket list.

"He's granted the old man a wish!"

Let the fun and games commence...

The lap times this weekend have followed a pattern - Ferrari are quick in the first sector, Mercedes in the final one. This a reflection of the fact that, as Sebastian Vettel puts it, Ferrari “have good speed on the straights”.

This could help him overtake the Mercedes cars, if he has the pace to get close enough to them. But his issue may well be that Ferrari are “lacking a little bit of downforce in the last sector”.

Vettel added: “Let’s see what we can do - but surely it’s going to be a long race.”

    Can you do this?

Today we want to hear your highlights of the Formula 1 season, what were you favourite moments?

Also, more importantly since we have what looks to be an exciting season lining up next year, tell us your predictions for who you think will be competitive next year.

Will Vettel pull his finger out? Will Hamilton leave everyone for dust once again? Will Red Bull's switch to Honda benefit them as much as they think? And what of Raikkonen and Ricciardo going to what looks like less competitive teams.

Tell us your thoughts via #bbcf1, and if it includes Daniel Ricciardo, use #CheersDan and we'll see if we can get that trending, eh?

  14. Will we get a stunner to finish?published at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2018

    Yas MarinaImage source, BBC Sport

It has been a different sort of day in Abu Dhabi on Sunday from the rest of the weekend. Sure, obviously, there’s a cloudless sky and it’s sunny. But the wind has picked up significantly, sand is being blown about in significant quantities and the sky is hazy rather than relatively clear.

The season ends with a two-by-two grid at the front, Lewis Hamilton heading a Mercedes front row, Ferrari not far behind and the Red Bull drivers hoping to benefit from their strong race pace to force their way on to the podium.

The Yas Marina circuit has a surface aesthetic attractiveness but it lacks character and challenge. Will it provide a soporific race or a stunner to end a season that promised so much before Hamilton’s genius took it over?

Sadly, this is the final time I get to grace you all with my words in a live text commentary format this year. But there's plenty to discuss, and we've got plenty to keep you going until 15 March next year when we reconvene for Australia. Including Formula E, which we now have the rights to of course!

  16. So this is the finalpublished at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2018

This is the final day of the 2018 Formula 1 season, and we're in Abu Dhabi for it's 10th race, and the fourth time it's been a season closer.

Lewis Hamilton is on pole position for the 11th time this season, making him edge further in the lead in with more pole positions than any other driver with 83.

Its should be an exciting race, with plenty of action as for some drivers it will be their last drive in Formula 1, and for others it will be their last drive in that car before moving to a different team for next season.
