Race winner Lewis Hamilton: "I'm so happy right now. Thank you guys so much for all the support this year.

"It's been a real honour and a privilege racing against Sebastian. I've known him since our Formula 3 days and he's an honest driver who has always raced his heart out. There's so much pressure on us guys, so don't judge us by our faults. I know he's going to come back stronger next year."

On his Lap 6 pit-stop: "The engineers always talk about stopping too early. They were way too chilled and the car didn't feel right. But it turned out they were right. A big thank you to the engineers."

On Fernando Alonso: "Fernando is a true legend. It's been a privilege to race when he is racing. I as asked all weekend if I will miss him. I don't feel I will miss another driver, but the sport will miss him and I will miss him from the sport."

Max Verstappen, our tiger of the day, who came third, says: "It was not an easy race, I had a problem at the start but then my engine went into safety mode and I had it again in the restart afterwards.

"But I managed to go back and put some pressure of the guys ahead and we managed to keep the supersofts alive. We had a good pace but the last few laps were hard because there was a Toro Rosso leaking oil on my helmet so I couldn’t see."

Fernando Alonso, after his guard of honour and and dose of doughnuts says: "It has been pleasure racing with these champions and I feel privileged. Thanks to everyone and to Formula 1, I will always be a fan of this sport."

I'd say Fernando Alonso is around the top five of all time, but I struggle to judge Juan Manuel Fangio and Jim Clark, the old greats who I never saw drive. It's very difficult to compare those drivers with the modern-day drivers. But Alonso is one of the all-time greats, and he will be missed.

He's got a five second time penalty for leaving the track, so it looks like he'll be staying on 1,800 points.

Fernando Alonso is still 11th, chasing Kevin Magnussen. His enginner is telling him to go for 10th. Alonso isn't so sure - he just wants to make sure he finishes.

McLaren engineer: "There's a point here for grabs, let's go get him."

Alonso: "I [already] have 1,800 points."

McLaren engineer: "Well, for me, make it 1,801."
