Simon: I know that it won't be any consolation, but @Charles_Leclerc, external well and truly deserves the biggest cheer on the podium, even though he deserved the win more.

Euan: I can't remember feeling so emotional over an F1 race before...

Kayleigh: Oh brother what a race! So, so many ups and downs but points for @LandoNorris, external! And Bottas still leads the WDC. Can’t wait to see what happens in China.

You just have to feel for Charles Leclerc. An engine problem costs him his first ever victory, it is still the first podium of his career, but it could and should've been so much more.

The only thing to say is, it surely will not be long before he stands on the top step after a race.

Max Verstappen spins around after he's crossed the line. A donut for finishing fourth from the Dutchman? Nope, he just spins it.

    Jolyon Palmer
Former Renault driver on BBC Radio 5 live

The flashing red light on Ricciardo's car signals that it's not safe to touch, that's why the marshals were wearing rubber gloves to not get an electric shock.

Joshua: Awful times for both Renault drivers. Safety car out will keep Leclerc in 3rd, some consolation prize.

Russell: I know it's exciting at the top, but can we also mention that McLaren are currently 6th? What an improvement from last year!

Sara: I'm just feeling so sad for Leclerc. He truly arrived today as a driver. Unfortunately his car didn't.

What has happened to Renault? Both cars conked out at the same moment, at the same corner. No contact between them, (well, not that time) just a double car malfunction.

All the good races last year were spiced up with a safety car. This is just good motor racing.

That is a sensational return from Lando Norris, sixth if it stays like this in only his second race at McLaren.

We could well be finishing under the safety car. If so, it will end Hamilton one, Bottas two, Leclerc three, Verstappen four, Vettel five, Norris six, Raikkonen seven, Gasly eight, Albon ninth, Perez 10th.

  14. Ricciardo gonepublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 31 March 2019

That is an absolute rubbish 30 seconds for Renault. Both men gone. Both were in the points. "Everything cuts out," says Ricciardo.
