    Lap 53/57

Hamilton 16 seconds clear, as long as his car does not fail him, he wins this one. Bottas, Mercedes say, will get to Leclerc in time for second, with Max Verstappen hunting out an unlikely top three finish.

Our top three in Australia was Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen. It could well be the same three, different order, here.

Simon Baker: Feel gutted for @Charles_Leclerc, external no words can express how sad this is, the kid did absolutely everything right, but unreliability set in.

Dan: I'm not a Ferrari fan but you got to feel heartbroken for Leclerc.

Andrew Morris: Devastating for Leclerc, but perhaps Ferrari overcooked the engine trying to reassert dominance over Mercedes and that's what's costing them now?

You can't script this, he's destroyed his four-time world champion team-mate Sebastian Vettel, but his race is getting away from him. He's trying to find some switches on the dash to make it easier but the car is now unstable beneath him.

Max Verstappen may have got very excited. He's been ambling along in fifth most of the day, he can sense a podium. Bottas is 12 seconds off Leclerc. More than five laps to get him.

Ross: Come on Lewis get the Hammer Down!

Reece Young: I'm a @LewisHamilton, external fan but @Charles_Leclerc, external deserves this. If he doesn't win it'll be a shame but he'll win so many more races. He has a big future ahead of him and many world titles to claim.

Josh Earl: Even as a Hamilton fan, that is really, really unfortunate for Leclerc. He deserved to win this race. So cruel.

  8. Radio message - Leclercpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 31 March 2019

Engineer: "Follow the numbers on the dash."

Leclerc: "Yep, but I can't - oh my god."

    Lap 51/57

Hamilton is closing in on win number 74 of his career. Ferrari were one and two in all three practice sessions and then again in qualifying. Hamilton was unhappy with his car, unhappy with his tyres and he is six laps from the chequered flag.

    Lap 49/57

Valtteri Bottas now senses blood. Despite all the odds, this could be another Mercedes one-two. Leclerc still losing pace and power. Bottas 25 seconds behind and closing all the time. He has eight laps to get him for second. Verstappen is five seconds further back.

Leclerc was closing in on his first win, he might not even get on the podium now.

Sho: This is so unfair on Leclerc. He's driven a sensational race.

He's not picking up revs there it's not picking up any power. His lead is being whittled down to five seconds to Hamilton.

You can hear the panic in Leclerc's voice that something isn't right and Mercedes can sense they can still win this.

Can that engine survive? I don't think it can.
