  2. ‘Special to be here for Lewis’ 80th win’published at 16:14 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at Silverstone

Today was Lewis Hamilton’s sixth win in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone - and Luke Curnick has watched all of them. In fact, he has seen every one of the last 22 races here.

Holding a huge GB flag and heading towards the podium as MC Hammer’s ‘U Can’t Touch This’ is played over the tannoy system around Silverstone, Luke says: “It’s great that Lewis has won for a sixth time and its special to be here for his 80th win overall as well. That’s something we should be really proud of, that a Great British driver has done.

“We were spoilt a bit though for the race with Valtteri Bottas and that safety car. But this is my 22nd British Grand Prix and I first came here when I was five.”

It’s Hamilton’s seventh win in 10 races this season, but Luke isn’t preparing to celebrate another world title just yet.

He adds: “Nothing is done until you can’t take anymore points off him. He has a good hold on it and let’s hope he brings it home for a sixth time. I’ve been camping here and at the start we didn’t know if this was going to be the last race here. Everyone was nervous but the extra five years is like a weight lifted off.”

    Hamilton's best-ever British GP win?

Alex P: 2008 was one of the most epic races I’ve ever seen. It’s the stuff of legends

Matt: 2008, in the wet, a total masterclass that day.

Nick: No suprise for 2008. Absolute masterclass, schooled everyone that day in a performance second only (debatable) to Senna at Donington 1993.

Sebastian Vettel, talks us through the crash with Max Verstappen.

He says: "Well it was my mistake so obviously he passed me and then ran a bit wide which gave me the chance to come back then I looked for a second that he was going to the right and there would be a gap of the left which didn't open and by that time it was too late and I crashed."

Driver of the day, Charles Leclerc says: "It's probably the race I enjoyed the most in my F1 career. It's great to finish third but today was very difficult. We were where we wanted to be in the first two stints, but the safety car meant we lost a couple of positions and I'm extremely proud of the battles we had on track.

"I think the last race was an eye opener for me showing me how far we can go and it's great for F1 to fight on the limit in that way and I'm happy that this race has gone that way."

  15. 'I'm super proud to be a part of this'published at 15:50 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

British former F1 driver Jenson Button is speaking to Lewis Hamilton. He says: "Honestly I'm a bit out of breath. I can't tell you how proud I am to be here today in front of my home crowd. There's so many British flags out there and every year I see it and you think you get used to it but it feels like the first time and I'm forever grateful to everyone out here I hope you enjoyed the day.

Button reminds Hamilton: "You are a six time winner at a British Grand Prix..."

    "Jeeez." says Hamilton.

"I couldn't have done it without these guys, I couldn't have done it without the team and everyone at the factory and their family who support them with all the time they spend away, they work so hard in their jobs. There's nearly 2,000 people who make this possible and I'm just a chink in the chain and I'm super proud to be a part of this."

JJ Jackson:Was sceptical of fastest lap point, but proved its worth yet again today...not that we needed more excitement today, mind. Brilliant race!

Mark Dury: Wow Lewis you legend. Not only winning your home grand prix but to get the fastest lap on the last lap with tyres that have done over 30 laps

Sam: What a race from that man Lewis Hamilton thoroughly deserved, no one could have beaten him today. Such an honour to be watching one of the greatest drivers ever to have lived

Lewis Hamilton just casually putting in the fastest lap of the race, on his final lap, on tyres that were more than 30 laps old, is already one of my favourite moments from this season.
