If you don’t see the cap, and if you’ve somehow missed the GB flag around the neck then the trousers leave you in no doubt who Yvonne and Paul Morey are cheering on.

It’s their 12th British Grand Prix in a row and there’s nowhere else they would rather be.

“We’re both just motor racing fans and this is the British Grand Prix,” says Yvonne. “It’s fantastic that we’re coming back for five more years. I was concerned but it’s such a part of the Grand Prix season here - Silverstone is historic.

“They couldn’t really drop it - it’s too important and the biggest crowds of the season so it was a no brainier. It’s a fantastic weekend, such fun, great camaraderie.”

Neither Mercedes driver was especially happy with the laps he put together in qualifying, the new asphalt and windy conditions making it especially difficult not to make mistakes, however small. But in the end it was Valtteri Bottas who pulled out a better one, edging team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.006 seconds.

Lewis Hamilton’s thoughts were immediately on the race - and perhaps on the fact that after Bottas’s last two poles, it was Hamilton who was into the lead by the first corner, and went on to win.

“There’s a long race so I just have to see how I can convert the position I’m in to progress forward,” Hamilton said. “The long run (on Friday) was good, so I hope we can utilise the tyre advantage we have, in the sense of starting on the mediums, so hopefully we can do a good job with that."

This is the 1,007th Formula 1 race and as such there is a 007 James Bond theme around the place.

The Red Bull pair have Bond references on both of their cars and there is a collection of the spectacular cars used in Bond films to see and pose next to in the Fan Zone.

And now the man himself, otherwise known as actor Daniel Craig, has just turned up and caused quite a commotion in the paddock.

He signed some fan autographs, signed a car (one which attempted to break the land speed record a few years ago), posed for pictures with some mechanics and, like any good secret agent, was gone!

Red Bull have gone all out on the James Bond theme this weekend to celebrate the 1007th race in Formula 1.

Along with 007 livery and Aston Martin DB5 and V8 license plates for each driver, Pierre Gasly and Max Verstappen have also been handed these Bond-inspired, special edition race overalls.

The pair also took the DB5 out for a spin around the Silverstone circuit after yesterday's qualifying session.

A nice touch for the drivers' parade with Lewis Hamilton being driving round the circuit by his dad. His brother Nic is also in the car.

Speaking before heading off, Hamilton said: "It is a real honour to be one of the drivers representing this country. It is a real privilege to here and hopefully I can make them proud today.

"A few of the guys behind us are starting on softs so it will be an interesting first few laps. Strategy will be everything and timing will be everything."

And on driving his son, Lewis' dad Anthony said: "I can't guarantee I will bring him back in one piece but I will try!"

  13. Bottas to be brilliant in Britain?published at 12:36 British Summer Time 14 July 2019

If Lewis Hamilton is to be denied a record-breaking sixth British Grand Prix victory then it could well be because of one of these men.

Bottas, Leclerc, Gasly, RicciardoImage source, BBC Sport

Valtteri Bottas starts on pole position, Charles Leclerc, aiming for his first race win, was the best of the Ferraris in third, Pierre Gasly had been quickest in one of the practice sessions and is fifth, while it is always good to see Daniel Ricciardo doing well and he was ‘Best of the Rest’ in qualifying seventh.

For Bottas, he edged out Hamilton by 0.006 seconds to take his 10th pole of his career and he is aiming for his sixth race victory and third of 2019. It would also be a first Silverstone success for him after being on the second step of the podium in both 2017 and 2014.

Bottas? Hamilton? Leclerc? Verstappen? Pick your winner of the British Grand Prix. There’s a Mercedes front row and perhaps the silver cars will ease off into the distance. But you wouldn’t bet on it, and Max Verstappen’s Red Bull in fourth looks particularly threatening.

... there's been some great British winners of the British Grand Prix.

Today, Lewis Hamilton could write his name into the history books by winning his home race for a record sixth time.

However, with his team-mate Valterri Bottas on pole, Hamilton has plenty of work to do.
