Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finally took his maiden Formula 1 victory after holding off Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes to win the Belgian Grand Prix.

Leclerc dedicated the win to Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert, who was killed in a crash on Saturday.

"This one is for Anthoine," he said over team radio after crossing the line. "Feels good, but difficult to enjoy on a weekend like this."

After pulling up in the pits at the end, Leclerc celebrated in fittingly subdued style, pointing at the sticker on his Ferrari dedicated to the memory of Hubert, against whom he had raced on his way through the ranks to F1.

The 21-year-old has come close to wins twice before in his first season with Ferrari, his second in F1, but delivered under pressure at the classic Spa track. But he had to fight for it as Hamilton closed in to cross the line less than a second behind in a nail-biting finish.

Formula 1 held a minute's silence before Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix in memory of Anthoine Hubert.

The Formula 2 driver, 22, died in a crash at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on Saturday.

F1 representatives stood around one of his helmets as a video honouring the French driver was played at the track.

Tributes continued during the race as lap 19 saw fans applauding in the grandstands - Hubert's race number was 19.

Earlier in the day Hubert's mother and brother joined drivers from F2 and Formula 3 to observe a minute's silence before the F3 race.

  4. 'Whatever gives me power, stopped giving me power'published at 16:43 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

Lando Norris, suffered a loss of power in the final lap and didn't finish, says: "As a team it was going to be our joint best result for the team. Things were looking up before [the incident]... Whatever gives me power, stopped giving me power."

  5. 'Hopefully he's in the naughty seat'published at 16:42 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

Alex Albon and Sergio Perez are at the stewards after Albon went on to the grass to get ahead of Perez.

Albon says: "I'm a bit mixed to be honest. I really struggled in the first half, I struggled with the tyres to get them up to temperature and that whole stint on the mediums and that thing where I was expected to overtake a load of cars and I just didn't.

"And we did a pitstop and then I came alive after that really.

"I have to run to the stewards now for this (with Perez) here we were playing the DRS gam. Obviously Sergio wants DRS and it was like a VSC [virtual safety car] restart the Racing Point was so quick down the straights all weekend, and we were catching Sergio at quite a good rate. Hopefully he's in the naughty seat."

  6. 'Sebastian has been very helpful for Charles today'published at 16:38 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto, finally has his first race win in the job 13 races in. He says: "It’s a mixed feeling but no doubt we should be happy Charles' first victory he drove very well pushing from the first lap to the end and it was important for him to win today.

"I’m happy because we missed the opportunities before this year, and this is an important victory for us here at Spa.

"It's more important for a first win for Charles for me it doesn’t count. We had to stop with Sebastian to protect the position and protect ourselves against Mercedes, we had no choice at the time.

"Sebastian has been very helpful for Charles today and they played very well as team-mates. I’m pretty sure there will be time for him in the future."

  9. 'I can’t enjoy the win in full today'published at 16:34 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

Charles Leclerc, the Belgian Grand Prix winner reflects on the weekend. He says: "Yesterday was a huge shock. Esteban (Ocon) Pierre (Gasly) and Anthoine (Hubert) all started at the same race in karting in 2005. It brings back memories. I can’t enjoy the win in full today I will probably realise in a few weeks but it is difficult now."

"Once I crossed the finish line at least this is ticked in my childhood dreams and now I can focus on the future and try and improve with many more.

"I believe the characteristics of the (Monza) track should fit our cars and hopefully it will be like this weekend with being quick in qualifying, we will see but I think it will be good for us.

"Seb has been very nice and without him it would've been a lot more difficult to win this race so thanks to him."

  12. 'I didn't have the pace'published at 16:19 British Summer Time 1 September 2019

Sebastian Vettel finished fourth after his team-mate won the race. Asked on whether he's happy or not, he says: "For the team yes. For myself I'm not happy I didn't have the pace to stay on top of the tyres normally not a problem. It was tough race, it was clear from earlier on we wouldn't be in the fight so I had to work for the team.

"I was struggling in the corners so that allowed [Hamilton] to get close and I couldn't hold him off for a long time I tried to make him lose time in order to give Charles a cushion but in the end he did it."

Leclerc takes maiden F1 victory #bbcf1

Stephen Taylor: Really chuffed for Leclerc . His first win has been coming since Bahrain . More importantly all drivers should be congratulated for even competing under difficult circumstances today - the perfect way honour Hubert.

babatunde sakiru: Hamilton left the strategy too late to challenge Ferrari. Well done to Mercedes team.

Bob McFeil: Gutted for Norris. Absolutely gutted. Even Arsenal winning won’t cheer me up - and I’m an Arsenal fan.

Elspeth Dunn: A young racer Charles Leclerc who has won today. Bet his godfather Jules Bianchi was also watching down.

An Arsenal fan not happy if their team beats Spurs later on in the North London derby? I'm not having that.

What a good haul of points that would have been for McLaren. Not to mention the only haul of points since Sainz retired earlier on. But it was to be last-lap disappointment for the Briton as his car let him down.

Murdoch Mackenzie: Another couple of laps Hamilton would have had him. Well done Leclerc though. How about for every yellow flag we add a lap to the race?

Denislov Lietnev: Giovinazzi just ruined what would've been an epic finish to this race... Feels like a cliffhanger!

Matthew Noble: Leclerc!!! So happy he has won he's deserved that with the great effort he's put in this season.... on the other hand gutted for Norris right at the end done nothing wrong and deserved that fifth place and big shout out to Albon as well good drive from near the back.

Valtteri Bottas finished P3 and says: "It's a decent result, but the race didn't quite work out exactly how we wanted - Ferrari were very fast on the straights and I didn't have much of a chance to fight for the lead today."
