Speaking on the earlier crash in F3, Nico Rosberg says it gave him shivers watching it and he's glad Alex Peroni came out of it largely unscathed: "You could see him shaking as he got into the medical car, and understandably. If that was the speed of an F1 car, it would be in the forest."

    Maybe.

Max Verstappen is 0.032 sec behind Vettel while Bottas and Leclerc got exactly the same time to go third and fourth: 1:20.403.

    "Understood, we saw that."

Leclerc goes for a practice start from the pit exit with two minutes left on the clock.

Verstappen is surprisingly close to Sebastian Vettel, he's 0.032 sec behind. Bottas goes 0.109 sec behind Max.

At this point it seems obvious that all drivers are on softs.

Ricciardo, Norris, and Raikkonen did a stint on hards at the beginning of the session. And Bottas, both Haas, and both Red Bulls did a stint on mediums.

Leclerc might get that lap deleted with four wheels over the white line. He cuts the timing beam and it's not an improvement for Leclerc but it is for Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton had a nice surprise in Friday practice.

Yes, Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari was quickest, but Hamilton was less than 0.1secs behind and he sensed blood. “They are quite quick in a straight line,” he said.

"We are quite strong on race pace but perhaps a little closer (than expected) potentially on single-lap pace so it looks like we have a fight. It is surprising.”

At Ferrari, there was concern, not least because Mercedes set their fastest lap times after the first shower of rain in second practice, while Ferrari had run early to ensure it was dry.

“Nice to be quickest,” Leclerc said. “But I don’t think it is a real picture of everything because I expect Mercedes to be very strong when we will be in the same conditions because they did their fastest lap time in difficult conditions. They are very quick and we need to work for tomorrow.”
