  9. A win for Ferrari, in the least eventful way everpublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 27 September 2019

    Andrew Benson
    BBC Sport’s chief F1 writer

Governing body the FIA has this morning withdrawn its plans to introduce standard brake systems as part of the raft of changes in the 2021 rules package.

This might sound arcane and even a little boring, but actually it is a significant moment, because it is a win for Ferrari and the big teams in the ongoing battle over the rule changes, about which they have a number of concerns, especially their prescriptive nature.

The deadline for the technical and sporting regulations to be published is 31 October, and it is far from clear at this stage whether the FIA and F1 Group are going to be able to introduce the major changes they want, which are aimed at making the cars able to race more closely together by introducing a new aerodynamic philosophy.

Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull would prefer the rules stayed more or less the same, claiming that F1 is trying to do too much at once, and that there is too big a risk of something going wrong.

Russia could face a ban from all major sports events over "discrepancies" in a lab database, the World Anti-Doping Agency has warned.

The country has been given three weeks to explain "inconsistencies" or risk being excluded from the Olympics and world championships.

Russia also faces being barred from hosting major events.

"There's evidence this data has been deleted," chairman of Wada's compliance panel, Jonathan Taylor, told BBC Sport.

"We need to understand from the Russian authorities what their explanation is."
