The indications are that this will be a one-stop race, especially with the top five all starting on the medium tyre. But the higher temperatures on race day - a maximum of 22C is expected, several degrees warmer than the practice days - could increase tyre degradation and push it towards a two-stop. Another factor are the pronounced bumps, which have been giving drivers headaches - literally. The worst ones are on the entry to Turn One, exit of Turn Nine and through Turn 18.

Turn One is a particular problem, as lock-ups, especially when trying to pass another car, could influence tyre life. A pit stop takes about 20 seconds under green flag conditions, about 14 under a safety car, of which there is a 71% historic probability. Ferrari have saved a set of new softs for each of their drivers and Mercedes a set of new mediums. But if the race runs as expected neither will be needed, because they will likely switch from medium to hard at their only pit stops.

  20. 'This is the place to be on the planet right now'published at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 3 November 2019

Texas-born Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey speaking with 5 Live: "The main reason I am here is to support Lewis Hamilton.

"I followed Nascar and became friends with Jeff Gordon. I appreciate the racing, I don't follow it religiously but then when I can meet somebody that is great at a sport and I also respect as an individual, like I do Lewis, that makes it a lot more fun for me to be a part of.

"Formula 1 has got razzmatazz, it's got protocol, a whole lot of circumstance and things leading up to it.

"It's so much more technical than Nascar used to be.

"If you're here you are like 'OK, this is the place to be on the planet right now'."
