Mercedes are in a league of their own - that was the lesson of Friday practice at the Russian Grand Prix. When are they not, you might ask? But it seems even more the case in Sochi so far. They had a second on the rest of the field, and that was led by a Renault not a Red Bull, and the black cars were comfortably clear on a long run, too. There were mitigating factors, however. Mercedes were running their engines a little more turned up than usual because they were running some checks, and Red Bull were playing around with set-ups. So the gaps may close. But so far it looks very much like a private fight between Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, neither of whom put an optimum lap together.
Six races, six Mercedes wins.
The Silver Arrows have been in a league of their own since Sochi first arrived on the calendar in 2014, and they are looking good to continue that this weekend after dominating practice on Friday.
That is, unless anyone has a surprise up their sleeve?
