  2. Formation lap under waypublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

Valtteri Bottas got a huge jump on Lewis Hamilton in the initial race start - which feels about two weeks ago rather than 40 minutes now. Will Hamilton be able to return the favour when we have another go at getting racing?

Race to restart at 14:55 BST after big crash

Neil Denham: Will be interesting to see what the rest of the track looks like, wonder if we will ever find out?

Lauren Smith: At this point, Daniel Ricciardo will be on the podium and it will be shoey time

Daniel Eckersley: Sainz onboard reminiscent of Billy Monger’s accident. Massive closing speed. Super scary.

The restart will be a big chance for Hamilton to get the lead back. Bottas made a magnificent start from second.

Can you imagine the irony if Williams get a point today on the first weekend when they're not owned by a Williams?

George Russell's Williams will be up in 10th when the field line up back on the straight.

  11. Session stoppedpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

When we restart, it will be a standing start. Probably for the best after that mess of a rolling kick-off.

  12. Session stoppedpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

We are not close to a restart yet.

Still work to do for plenty of the teams and the race marshalls.

    Red flag after restart crash

Chris walker: What on Earth was Sainz doing driving full tilt into a wall of cars with nowhere to go? Clearly no semblance of forward planning his next move!

Lara Chaplin: Even with the madness on show so far, we're still going to end up with Merc 1-2 aren't we? Unless... Cheeky penalty for Bottas?

JV Tossh: Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but I think Russell should get a penalty. What is he doing accelerating then slowing down in the middle of the pack. Completely senseless decision.

  15. A chance for Albon?published at 14:49 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

Alex Albon, fourth just behind the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc, will sniff an opportunity to score big when this race restarts, especially with Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen already out of the race.

Others to look out for include Racing Point's Lance Stroll up to fifth and McLaren's Lando Norris in eighth.

We have had nine laps so far. Eight and three-quarters of those have been under safety car conditions.

  16. Team radio - Bottas to Mercedespublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

Bottas: "So what happened at the restart?"

Mercedes pit wall: "I think it was people going before you'd gone, so they all concertinaed into each other."

  17. Session stoppedpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

The pitlane is a flurry of activity. The mechanics are patching up their cars. Those in midfield have the most to do. The Mercedes of Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton were far enough up the road to be safe, but most of the other teams were caught up in that restart smash to varying degrees.

I don't blame Bottas. If he didn't know the safety car was coming in until the final corner then he had no other option.

It was not the ideal restart but it was the sensible option for him. We have seen Hamilton do that in the past.

I don't know how the drivers at the back thought they were racing.

  19. Session stoppedpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

You hope that the marshalls at Mugello are fully prepped for this. They are obviously not used to the demands of an F1 weekend and now they have a massive to-do list to clear the track in preparation for a restart.

  20. Team radio - Sainzpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 13 September 2020

"Oh my god. That was dangerous."
