Baffling that he [Hamilton] didn't know that he [Perez] was already leading the race. It is surprising because we heard Bottas being told he was unsafe to Perez out front but maybe Hamilton didn't get the message or didn't know it was Perez he was coming up to.

Chris, Belfast: If someone told me Mazepin was doing this race on foot, I would absolutely believe them.

Roddi: I want to hear someone do a good impression of James Hunt commenting on Mazepin's driving...

  4. Team radio - Hamilton to Mercedespublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    "Hamilton: "Blue flags."

Mercedes: "Nope, you're racing [Perez], he's yet to stop."

Did Hamilton think he had the race lead when he was in fact behind Perez, albeit with the Red Bull man only ahead because he hadn't pitted?

  5. 'Alonso charging'published at 16:19 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

Fernando Alonso passes Daniel Ricciardo for ninth, really nice move. He is charging. He is on the hard tyres and at this race is going to make it a nice double points finish for his team.

Nikita Mazepin gets a five-second penalty for ignoring blue flags and failing to get out of the way when then-leader Sergio Perez was trying to pass him.

Seems a pretty pointless penalty though as Mazepin is already last. Surely a more fitting punishment would be something taken over to the next race.

Chris: Toto on Bottas' radio twice in two weeks. In other words it's time to deliver Bottas!

Beaver, Paisley: What can teams do to cut the pit stop times?

Gordon: Based on Mazepin's performance in the first three races he's unlikely to complete the season and will be replaced.

Lewis Hamilton doesn't wait for Sergio Perez to pit for him to retake the lead. The Red Bull man, on the mediums he began the race with, is unable to hold off a Hamilton charge on the straight and it's Hamilton's race to lose now.

  9. Team radio - Hamilton to Mercedespublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

"It's the rear tyres. Rear tyres first."

  10. Postpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

Sergio Perez still hoping for a safety car as he charges around in the lead. Completely see why Red Bull have left him out, but he's losing pace and may lose the lead anyway with Lewis Hamilton within two seconds now.

Perez leads (well, sort of) as he hasn't stopped. He'll drop to fourth when he does.

  11. Team radio - McLaren to Norrispublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

McLaren: "Gap to Leclerc is 2.9."

Norris: "Yeah. just let me drive."

  12. Postpublished at Lap 48/66

Nikita Mazepin continues to annoy other drivers, this time he does not move over and blocks off temporary leader Sergio Perez.

Mazepin last, Schumacher 18th then come the two Williams with Latifi in 17th and Russell in 16th.

  13. Team radio - Red Bull to Perezpublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

"Ok Checo, we're looking at Plan A, plus 10. Plan A, plus 10."

  14. 'Encouragement from Wolff to Bottas'published at 16:11 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

I find these insights so fascinating from Toto Wolff. There is a relationship between Bottas and Wolff where Bottas said I want you to give me this seminal moments, give me advice and encouragement, that is what he just did.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff gets on the radio to give Valtteri Bottas a message "you're the fastest car Valtteri, hunt him down".

You know what, I love that from Wolff. Bottas very much seems like he needs some support and some encouragement when he could be feeling pretty disheartened.

  16. Team radio - Red Bull to Verstappenpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

"Both Mercedes more aggressive at Turn Eight. Mid-exit, Turn Eight. So start to adopt that, Max."

  18. Team radio - Mercedes to Bottaspublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

"This tyre is really resilient. You're the fastest man on track. You can really push it."

Looking at Carlos Sainz. He slipped onto the medium tyres on lap 22. I just wonder, are those mediums going to survive until the end of the race?

  20. Postpublished at Lap 44/66

How long can Perez go on for? He's still on the same tyres 43 laps in as he was.

Still, I'm sure he's having a great time being out in front of everyone, even though if he knows he needs something to go wrong for either Hamilton, Verstappen or Bottas to get on the podium.
