Once again, just as we had before Tsunoda's engine fell apart to bring out the safety car, it's Verstappen and Hamilton playing a different game to everyone else. Less than a second between them, with Leclerc in third five seconds back.

quixoticgeek: The front two title contenders are within a second of each other on track. Have we had a season this close at any point in the last few decades?

Pirelli are saying the medium tyre will only do 40 laps. Let's see who blinks first.
Everyone is currently on the softs, apart from Raikkonen (14th), Russell (15th), Latifi (17th) and Giovinazzi (19th) - all on the mediums.

Tom McQuillin: That was an unbelievable move by Lance Stroll on Fernando Alonso. You might question the way he got into the sport but there’s no denying that this guy is absolutely good enough to be racing at this level now. Credit to him, he’s clearly worked hard over the last few years.
The start's worth another listen. So here you go.

The stewards have been quick to act and Pierre Gasly gets a five-second penalty for going too soon at the start.
He's down in 13th so with that penalty it's going to have to be some effort to get into the top 10 from now on.

Hamilton tried to go with Verstappen but had a big wheel spin coming out of the final corner.

Andrew Priestley: The safety car has just come to the rescue of Bottas and his race. Those opening laps will have done his Mercedes contract negotiations no favours at all.
Can't help but feel Bottas would've been past Leclerc a few laps ago [pre-safety car] but he was stuck, as we see time and again. Is he on borrowed time at Mercedes?

Lance Stroll goes for a bold move, around the outside of home favourite Fernando Alonso. The Canadian gets it done, lovely move and that's him into the points and Alonso out of them.
No problems for Verstappen on the restart he gets away cleanly and holds on to the lead, although, obviously, we're all bunched up again.

In some ways this is good news for Verstappen. It means more of a chance of a one-stop race which is what you want when you are leading the grand prix. It does, however, bring Bottas back into play.
Tsunoda's car has been moved and the safety car is ending. It's lap 10, Max Verstappen now leads the way with 56 laps to go.
And here is Tsunoda's car right in the way.

AGL: Put the safety car out! Tsunoda is right in the firing line if anyone spears off there! How is that even a question?
Second week in a row that max has been over the yellow line at the start.

Antonio Giovinazzi tries to gamble and dives into the pits, but it's a shocker.
Alfa Romeo don't have the tyres ready, or one of them is deflated and he has to sit and wait and wait and wait. He drops to the back but we're still under the safety car so it could've been a lot worse.
