Max did really well to fend off Norris.
Guanyu Zhou was into the wall at Turn 9 after contact between himself and Pierre Gasly.
The safety car leads the field with Charles Leclerc in P1 ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
The yellow flag is waved because Guanyu Zhou has crashed! There's white smoke billowing out of his car an the safety car is going to come out.
Max Verstappen is slow off the line and Charles Leclerc takes full advantage to lead at the first corner.
LIGHTS OUT!
And it is a great start by Charles Leclerc from second!
The cars are in position on the grid, now we wait for the lights...

It is a fast formation lap. It looks like they are working hard to get some temperature into these tyres and I think that's because they know how critical this start is.
Fernando Alonso gets away very slowly for the formation lap, but he seems OK.
It is mostly softs with a smattering of mediums. Kevin Magnussen, in fourth, is the only driver in the top 10 on mediums.
The tyre warmers are about to come off, let's see what the compound of choice is.

Pole sitter Max Verstappen, speaking to Sky Sports: "I expect it to be close again.
"It is important to get a good start and see what others do with the tyres. It is called a sprint for a reason so it will be a flat-out race."

Charles Leclerc gave the cheering Tifosi a wave as he made his way round the circuit and to the grid. The atmosphere is superb as the sprint race approaches.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's important to get a good start, do you take a soft tyre that gets you off the line better or the medium that's more robust?
"Sergio has to get his elbows out, get stuck in. If he can get in the top four today, that would be a great performance.
"I am sure it is going to be an anxious race for some of the reliability guys but it always is."

Lando Norris reports "a few spots of rain" as he heads out. There are some ominous clouds gathering above the track now.
Lewis Hamilton got close to the sprint-race distance of 21 laps on softs while Sergio Perez got 18 under his belt without any significant drop off in his times.
No messing about from Max Verstappen. He is straight out as the pitlane opens.
Just under 30 minutes to go until the sprint race begins.
