Simon Baker: I wonder if Red Bull felt that Verstappen was using his tyres too much defending from Leclerc, so pitted to play the long game?

The midfield battle is bonkers. Five cars and scraping each other, with Lando Norris and Kevin Magnussen the main fighters. The Haas driver can't be pushed aside so easily by the McLaren and the Dane stays eighth, Norris in ninth.

Alonso's Alpine team-mate Esteban Ocon fancies an inside trip on Zhou Guanyu and his Alfa Romeo. Job done for the Frenchman on his 100th F1 race.

Yuki Tsunoda is next on Ocon's to-do list. No problems for the 25-year-old. Sixth place is in the bag.

Fernando Alonso started plum last on the grid today but the two-time world champion has already put the graft in to drag his Alpine into the points and into ninth place.

The question is now whether the one-stop strategy is actually the preferable strategy. Max Verstappen has come in and triggered many others in the field to do the same. Only the Ferraris and Lewis Hamilton seem committed to the one-stop.

How is this going to pan out?

I think that Red Bull had to do something. They were giving away time to Charles Leclerc and needed to change the trend.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull decide to switch to the hard tyres. The Dutchman is back out into the mix and is running in eighth place.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton repeats his overtake on Mick Schumacher and the Haas driver has to watch, once again, the Mercedes whizz away into the distance. Hamilton is up to fifth and eyeing up the other Haas of Kevin Magnussen.
