"We don't believe we can manage to do plan C."
We're in Sesame Street territory once again over at Ferrari as the letter 'C' is mentioned to Charles Leclerc.

Tom McQuillin: I know Carlos Sainz had a bad stop but he’s been in clear air most of this second stint. There is zero excuse for being so far off the Mercedes now they have also stopped when he’s had fresher tyres for the last 20 laps. Really poor from Sainz.

I think Verstappen is looking very strong here but for second and third Mercedes can definitely fight.
George Russell clocks the fastest lap of the race - which is quicker than team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
Max Verstappen, on the mediums, holds a 18.522-second advantage over Lewis Hamilton, who is on the hard tyres and looks like the Mercedes man is going right to the end on this rubber.
"Going to the end of the race."
"Box, Box."
Lap 32 and George Russell is also brought in for a set of hard tyres. Russell comes out just behind his team-mate Lewis Hamilton in fifth.

I think this timing of the pitstop was perfect just before Max catches up with him because as soon as a car overtakes you you lose two seconds straight away, so they avoided that two second loss and they did nearly half of the race on mediums so they should be able to do the rest on hards.
Max Verstappen tells his Red Bull engineer to keep an eye on those hard tyres but his verdict is they won't be any good.
1. Max Verstappen (Red Bull)
2. George Russell (Mercedes)
3. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)
4. Sergio Perez (Red Bull)
5. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)

"Box, box to overtake Vettel."
Lewis Hamilton is into the pits with the Red Bull on the charge. Hard tyres are the compound of choice for the seven-time world champion and he comes out in fifth place.
Over to you, Red Bull.
Right then, we're back in 2021 as it's Lewis Hamilton leading from Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen is on the attack and it's George Russell who is the prey. The Mercedes tries to hold off the threat of the home hero but the Silver door is left open and Verstappen drives straight through.

Verstappen has two options; the first one he probably wants is to close the gap [to Russell] as quick as possible and make the move in one go, but if he can't get the move done in one lap then he has to be worried about heating his car and tyres getting too hot.
"Hamilton may try a one stop."
