He officially posts a fastest time of 1:19.138, but his three best sectors add up to a 1:18.629.

As the test winds down, there are still plenty of interested observers in the pit lane. Pat Symonds has been checking out the updates teams are bringing, because the rate of development is so big. There’s also a lot of head scratching going on from different teams, who say they are struggling to understand exactly what the potential of their rivals is because performances have been fluctuating.

Sergio Perez gets to within three tenths of George Russell's time as he does a 1:19.556.

Lewis Hamilton is also into the 1:19s with 1:19.674.

Not long left for teams to gather the data they’ll be studying back at their respective bases for the next two weeks before the second test in Bahrain. For some there’s pit-stop practice and long running.

Others, like Red Bull, are heading out to try some softer compounds. Sergio Perez hasn’t had a huge amount of running this week, but he returns to the pits for a front-wing adjust and to simulate a race start from the end of the pit lane.

Into the final half-hour and there are not a lot of cars on the track. Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz have both found a tiny bit more time on their latest laps.
