The two Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are now first and second, dropping Charles Leclerc into third. The Monegasque man is on the team radio to his Ferrari crew to offer instructions and to keep things in order.
Lewis Hamilton is 10th and George Russell is one place lower in 11th spot. This is not shaping up to be a good session for Mercedes.
"Man! the Ferrari just squeezed me into the wall. Guys, what ... is he doing?"
Zhou Guanyu is told to stay calm by his engineer as the Alfa Romeo man is furious with the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz.
The stewards are going to take a look at that earlier incident between Lewis Hamilton and Kevin Magnussen at Turn 17.

I don't really know what Hamilton was doing there. He wasn't on a flying lap. He was on a slow lap and Magnussen was just winding up for a fast lap. Lewis hit the brakes, went to the right hand side and tapped the wall.
Hamilton is last, Russell has done two flying laps and he is 18th. Mercedes is in real trouble.
A rope is thrown to George Russell and he climbs out of the relegation places. The Mercedes man is now ninth fastest as Charles Leclerc goes quickest of the lot.

"Check the front wing, I've just hit the wall."
Nico Hulkenberg has found the going tough in Florida so far but the German is up into 11th at least. Lewis Hamilton has an urgent message for his Mercedes crew, as the seven-time world champion says he has hit the wall. The other Haas of Kevin Magnussen was close by.
Charles Leclerc doesn't stay in trouble for long and vaults his Ferrari all the way up to second on the board. Sergio Perez, Leclerc, Max Verstappen and now Carlos Sainz are the top four.
No times set yet from Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Logan Sargeant is the other driver in the early danger zone.

Hulkenberg was a lucky boy to be out of the wall.
Nico Hulkenberg has tapped his Haas on one of the Miami walls, sending his car squirming but the German comes out the other side unscathed and continues on his way. His team-mate Kevin Magnussen, meanwhile, briefly goes top of the timesheets before being pushed down by the Red Bulls.
Fort Lauderdale native Logan Sargeant has abandoned his first attempt in the Williams. The American hasn't scored any debut points in Formula 1 yet and picking up some prizes at his home grand prix would be a great start.
Quiet confidence over at Alpine? Let's see how the French team perform tonight then.

I was wandering around the paddock - Williams were extremely happy with the pace of Alex Albon and he was extremely strong here last year.
I am also detecting some quiet confidence for Alpine. They'll be looking to bounce back from a disastrous Baku weekend.

I think Verstappen is going to take some stopping. he has been the man in practice, and who's going to challenge. Ferrari have some new upgrades this weekend, they've looked ok but they've not looked at Verstappen's level.
But it is a street lined with walls - and anything can happen
