Sainz got away fairly decently and then knew what he had to do, he's come straight across to the right-hand side just accelerating away, had he not come across as soon as he did, I think Verstappen might have had an overlap and denied him a chance to close the inside line down.

    Lap 4/51

The fastest lap early doors goes to Max Verstappen but Carlos Sainz holds about seven tenths over the Red Bull on lap four of this Italian Grand Prix.

As the cars reach the straight in front of the tifosi, it's Ferrari-Red Bull-Ferrari in a neat line.

    Get your DRS ready...

The top five are as you were at the start: Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Sergio Perez.

Sainz glided across the Red Bull of Verstappen to cover off any attack from lights out. Can the Ferrari driver stay ahead of the reigning world champion?

No dramas on that opening lap and Carlos Sainz is leading the Italian Grand Prix to the delight of the home crowd.

Alex Albon also lost a place to a McLaren at the start but the Williams man spots a gap on Oscar Piastri and swipes back his sixth position.

Losing a couple laps of the race will favour Ferrari you would have thought if tyre degradation is higher, fewer laps for them to keep their tyres in check.

A reminder Lewis Hamilton, in eighth, is the only car in the top 10 on hard tyres. Mediums for the rest.

Fernando Alonso had his eyes closed in the Aston Martin cockpit. Zen.

The two-time world champion is down in 10th for the Italian Grand Prix - a race he has won twice during his long F1 career.

    Right, let's try again.

Which driver is going to be able to keep their cool now? Will this delay cause anyone to suffer a little wobble at the start?

Race control have given us a time to get going again. Five minutes, folks...

The fans are cheering in the sunny grandstands but we'd rather see some racing on track rather than a start delay.

Yuki Tsunoda also hitched a ride back to the garage along with his stricken car. Liam Lawson, the hopes of Alpha Tauri rest on your rookie shoulders now.

This is not ideal for Carlos Sainz, first pole position of the season, Ferrari home soil, all the pressure, you go through the preparation and then you have this delay which just changes things a little bit.

The teams are rushing to their drivers now as the Alpha Tauri is driven away on the recovery truck. Tyre blankets are being thrown on as quickly as possible and umbrellas are being used to shade the 20 drivers on the grid.

Well, the mechanics are sprinting to the grid now, as race control are trying to figure out what the best plan of action is. The drivers are sat on the grid, waiting patiently for Yuki Tsunoda's car to be removed.

Jeremiah Kariuki: Sainz could be on the pole and Leclerc on P3. But they may not do much to Verstappen when he unleashes the beast in that Red Bull. But how I would wish to see a Ferrari or any other car other than Red Bull taking the chequered flag.

Simon Baker: I think Verstappen will disappear into the distance unfortunately, I hope from an entertainment perspective I'm wrong

Oh no, a nervy radio message already from Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver is telling his team the car doesn't feel as smooth as it should do.
