The two captains will be cooking up their singles selections right now somewhere in the depths of Gleneagles. We will have news on that just as soon as the white smoke emerged from the hotel's chimney.

In the meantime, Rob Hodgetts' report is up and expanding on the website.

We will be back tomorrow for the singles action and the conclusion of the 40th Ryder Cup. Andy Cryer will be on the buttons well before the first tee shot is launched into the distance at 11:36 BST.

    See you there.

Ian Poulter has had a pretty ordinary campaign so far, but that superb chip in off the 15th fairway in the morning's fourballs was some of the old magic.

You can relive that and the rest of the day's shots in this jaunty video.

USA started on Friday with jumpers depicting a silhouette of the Ryder Cup itself. Today they went with an American flag. At this rate they will have the plane home on Sunday's design.

Tom Watson will need every bit of his belief, wisdom and wiles to breathe life into their challenge tonight. But if that momentum starts flowing their way, who can say?

AJ:, external Europe has to go top heavy tomorrow, kill it stone dead early, don't allow the US a sniff of another miracle.

  5. Who plays fourballs in Europe?published at 18:03 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    Nicolas Colsaerts
Belgium's 2012 Ryder Cup player on BBC Radio 5 live

It's a format most players play when they're young in Europe. You don't play fourballs you play foursomes in competition. That might be why.

  6. Captain reactionpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Team Europe's Jamie Donaldson of Wales (2nd L) and Lee Westwood of England (2nd R) are congratulated by Captain of Team Europe Paul McGinleyImage source, Getty Images

Europe captain Paul McGinley: "The guys were brave again today, but they produced again. It's been a great team performance. Collectively as a team everyone has pulled their weight and collectively we've come together.

"My job as captain is I'm half a day ahead of everyone else. I've had my idea of where we're going with the singles tomorrow and all afternoon I've been discussing it with my vice-captains. We'll discuss it with a few of the players. The eraser has been used a few times!"

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on Radio 5 live

"I just wonder whether Valderrama 1997 might be brought up in the team room. Europe led 10½-5½ then after battering the Americans 6-2 on Saturday but only just scraped home in the singles."

If you are Tom Watson who do you try and light the fuse on an improbable comeback tomorrow? Throw super rookies Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed in up top and hope their more senior colleague take their fearless lead?

Will Paul McGinley try to kill it off early doors and stem any United States resurgence at source with a top-loaded selection?

I think the Victor Dubuisson, runner-up in this year's WGC MatchPlay Championships, could yet be the trump card.

Martin Kaymer: "It was very exciting. We had our chances, I think no team wanted to win the match, that's what it felt like, but as we walked up the 18th I said to Justin, 'We deserve at least a point.'"

Justin Rose: "It feels good. They (Spieth and Reed) have had a great Ryder Cup. I think that match was there for the taking but we caught a break, they got a poor lie on the 18th. But foursomes can be like that and we worked hard today."

Rory McIlroy: "It's nice to put that first win on the board this week. We have had some great battles, even today, and we were able to get the better of Hunter and Jim. It's just great to put a point on the board and inch us closer to the win."

Sergio Garcia: "I think Rory beat three guys today in foursomes - that's not easy to do! I wasn't at my best. I was a little bit nervous. He played just amazing."

The bromance is strong between these two.

Ben Taylor:, external Great position for Europe to be in. The Miracle in Gleneagles doesn't have the same ring.

Andy Stevens:, external Goodness. Europe beat USA 7-1 in foursomes.

Paolo Brand:, external Rosey! Rosey! Rosey! Justin Rose you are Europe's hero & talisman. What an incredible performance dude!

At 10-6, Europe's advantage is the same they held at Brookline in 1999, when the United States swept back to win 14½-13½.

It is the same margin the United States had in Medinah before being overhauled 14½-13½ in the Sunday singles.

If the United States are to regain the trophy it will be in the most swashbuckling style.

Vice skip Miguel Angel Jimenez is bumbling about in the midst of the celebrations, waving a mini European flag.

His team have walloped the United States 7-1 in the foursomes across the opening two days. It has always traditionally been the Americans' weakest format and history is repeating itself once again.

  14. Europe at the racespublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

"I hate to say it but the European team is loaded with stallions, they're fresh and playing great."

  15. Rose & Kaymer v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    John Murray
BBC Radio 5 live commentator at Gleneagles

Justin Rose lifts his putter to the skies and shouts at Martin Kaymer. The match score is 10-6, just like Medinah.

Party on around the 16th after Furyk's miserable chip gifts McIlroy and Garcia the hole and with it the match. Ponytailed vice-captain Jimenez hugs his victorious players like a mob family don welcoming his favourite nephews. Rory flings his ball to the crowd, Sergio follows suit with his cap. 10-6 Europe, and the US will need their own Miracle of Medina. The Gobsmacking of Gleneagles?

  17. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Jordan Spieth goes close, but leaves it a little wide. Justin Rose drains his and Europe have the half as they poach the final hole.

No clean sweep for Justin Rose, but a commanding lead for his continent ahead of the singles.

  18. McIlroy & Garcia v Furyk & Mahanpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

No escape for the Americans as Rory McIlroy rolls in the final putt and is engulfed in blue and white hi-tech fabrics as his team-mates spill forward to congratulate him and Sergio Garcia.

A popular pair off the course as well as being a little useful on it.

  19. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Now then. Patrick Reed has got a bounder of a lie in the greenside bunker. He has to come out the sidedoor and Jordan Spieth has plenty to do on the green.

Martin Kaymer has a much clearer route to the pin and lands up to within five feet. Can they pinch a half out of the fire?

  20. McIlroy & Garcia v Furyk & Mahanpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Rory McIlroy might have put this one to bed. He plays out of the bunker and to within four feet with his third shot. The Americans are further away in four.

Start chalking it up Mr McGinley...
