  1. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Second shots on the last from within a few feet of each other.

Jordan Spieth steps up first. Into the greenside bunker. Can Justin Rose find the green and crank wide open a chance of a half? Not yet. He follows into the same trap.

  2. Europe's new 'power pair'... GMac and Dubushpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    BBC Radio 5 live

McDowell: "Victor's iron play over the last couple of days, I'm not sure I've seen better iron play consistently. It was stunning. I really can't say enough about the talent he is.

"The captain asked me to be a leader this week and I really wanted to embrace that role. I knew Victor was good but I didn't know he was this good. I've let this guy go. If he wins tomorrow I think you can really say he's arrived on the world stage."

Dubuisson: "My friends are with me, they're like my family. The crowd support has been fantastic."

  3. McIlroy & Garcia v Furyk & Mahanpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Back on 16, Rory McIlroy and Hunter Mahan have gone left and right off the fairway respectively. Sergio Garcia has a shot out of the rough and chases the ball out with a mighty blow. That is up somewhere just short of the green. Jim Furyk playing out of a bunker is more conservative and the Americans have work to do.

  4. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

To the last then. Martin Kaymer twists his torso through his tee shot and, with the help of a friendly kick, is up right alongside Patrick Reed's effort in the centre of the fairway.

  5. Rose & Kaymer v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    Andrew Magee
American PGA Tour winner on BBC Radio 5 live

"What a shot from Jordan Spieth, to put that within six feet over the bunker. As soon as Patrick Reed missed that putt on 16 Jordan ran over to his partner and said 'It's ok, it's ok. There are still two holes to play.'"

  6. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    USA up

Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed will have at least a half point to add to their tally as a little piece of Spieth magic and some clunky play from Justin Rose and Martin Kaymer puts them one up with one to play.

  7. McIlroy & Garcia v Furyk & Mahanpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Sergio Garcia and Rory McIlroy are walking a high-wire act, but they are not too far from home now. The Americans - Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan - are still within striking distance, but there are now only three holes left for them to land the punch.

Knee-deep in the heaving throngs around the 16th green, waiting for the Rose/Kaymer match to come through, and the thousands all around are glued to the gathering European charge on the giant screen beyond the bunker. It's like watching with a bunch of friends of friends on the world's biggest sofa. Who's got the family pack of crisps?

"What a tremendous talent this man (Dubuisson) is. He's been hitting it right to left, left to right, he's hit it in so tight sometimes GMac hasn't even had to putt. What a star of the future this guy is."

  10. Dubuisson & McDowell v Walker & Fowlerpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Europe are straining at the leash. Graeme McDowell cosies the ball up to the hole and Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker fold out on the 14th green to make it 8½-5½ to the boys in blue.

  11. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

After two good opening shots, Justin Rose and Martin Kaymer have made a dog's dinner of the 16th with the German flopping his attempt to chip down onto the bottom deck and Rose undercooking the recovery.

Kaymer's par putt runs by and suddenly Patrick Reed has a foot tiddler to put the United States one up with two to play.

Someone get a doctor in here quick! A choke of the highest order as he contrives to find a way round the hole.

That's the pressure of the Ryder Cup and there is more to come as they head for the 17th all square.

  12. Dubuisson & McDowell v Walker & Fowlerpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Victor Dubuisson has just about put the lid on Jimmy Walker and Rickie Fowler, firing to the heart of the 14th green.

  13. Dubuisson & McDowell v Walker & Fowlerpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    Europe up

Graeme McDowell goes close with a long, long putt as he attempts to win the hole. It seems like Europe's chance has gone, but Jimmy Walker surrenders the hole in painful fashion, rinking his three-foot putt for a half wide. Five up and five to play.

  14. McIlroy & Garcia v Furyk & Mahanpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    Europe up

There she blows. Rory McIlroy rolls his shoulders through the ball and his putter obliges, sending it away to put Europe two to the good.

  15. Westwood goes past Seve in overall Ryder Cup points tallypublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on Radio 5 live

This is turning into an excellent afternoon for Europe. USA desperately need Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan to turn around their match. For Lee Westwood, after his 2&1 win alongside Jamie Donaldson, that takes him above Seve Ballesteros on overall points (23 to 22.5).

  16. McIlroy & Garcia v Furyk & Mahanpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Sergio Garcia then. Has he got his seaside legs? He certainly has. A lovely little shovel out of the sand and Rory McIlroy will have a three-footer to win the hole and inflate Europe's lead in the match.

  17. McIlroy & Garcia v Furyk & Mahanpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

Hunter Mahan looks like he is playing some cross-country golf, sending his tee shot on 14 swinging way, way right and onto the adjacent fairway. Jim Furyk gets his machete out and heads into the wilds. He does a decent job of hacking out, but Rory McIlroy in a greenside bunker is surely better placed for Europe.

  18. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    John Murray
BBC Radio 5 live commentator at Gleneagles

Kaymer and Rose have missed chance after chance to take this match all square and this chance was, well, unmissable.

Following a monster putt from Justin Rose to within gimme range, German Kaymer tickled in a two-footer to pull Europe level with the super rookie pairing of Spieth and Reed.

  19. Kaymer & Rose v Spieth & Reedpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 27 September 2014

    Europe up

Patrick Reed allows his putter to slip through his fingers in despair as the his par putt teeters on the rim but refuses to drop on 15.

The American duo are not going to give Martin Kaymer his par putt from two feet. Fair enough as well. The German looks like he has a major rick in him at the moment. Not here though. He taps in and Europe are level in the match.

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom WatsonImage source, Reuters

I think Tom Watson's going to face a lot of criticism if this plays out as an American loss. Not playing the super rookies (Spieth and Reed) yesterday afternoon or Bradley and Mickelson today: Watson has made some very questionable decisions and he's not been the most convincing in the public forum. I think he'll come in for a lot of heat if the US lose.
