  1. Oosthuizen falterspublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Louis OosthuizenImage source, AP

Louis Oosthuizen drops his first shot of the round, returning to three under. A slap of the thigh from the South African on the 12th, too, as he screws his tee shot to the right. But he avoids the water hazard and should come away with a par.

Steve, London: Spieth for the win. With the way he's playing, the likes of McIlroy, Watson and Mickelson might find themselves standing on the 1st 10 shots off the lead and having to cope with the worst of the weather. He could be out of sight before the weekend.

Fred: Spieth effortlessly tearing up this Masters. Fascinating to watch! If only my maths integration was this intriguing.

James, Warrington: I can just see Spieth marching up the 6th shouting Brad Pitt in Troy style 'Is there no else!'

Freddie, Ilmington: Spieth showing what a young Tiger used to do. Tiger turning it up now. What do they say? Class is permanent or something like that.

  3. Upcoming tee-timespublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

Oof! Spectators groan in unison as Jim Furyk's tee shot crashes into the flag and rolls down the hill to rest in Augusta's version of the rough stuff on the edge of the green. It could have been a hole in one.

  5. Raining bogeys for Elspublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Ernie ElsImage source, Getty Images

Ernie Els gesticulates in frustration as he departs the 11th having dropped a shot. Two bogeys on the trot for Big Easy and that's no fun, no matter what level you play at. From high to low, Els plummets to -3 for the tournament and +2 for the day.

  6. Tussle at the toppublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Charley Hoffman

It was an impressive opening round by Charley Hoffman - a flurry of birdies and an eagle - but for those thinking the San Diegan was a flash in the Masters pan, think again because he's birdied the par-five second and is tied with Jason Day in second spot. Interesting few hours ahead.

Tom Holmes: A lot of people writing off Rory McIlroy, but he still has three rounds left and is more than capable of shooting something in the mid-60s.

Andy Barrick: The greens seem slightly slower than normal; this may help those with little conditioning to lightning fast greens.

Jack Ireson: Hoping Lee Westwood climbs the leaderboard today as we all know he can at Augusta - Spieth could be too far away already though...

  8. Augusta woe for Neilpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Bradley NeilImage source, EPA

Meanwhile, Lyle's playing partner - and fellow Scot - Bradley Neil is also finding the going tough. The 19-year-old from Dundee double bogeys the ninth, before levelling back out with three successive pars, leaving him 11 over for the tournament. But, don't forget, it is the amateur champion's first stroll around Augusta.

Other UK interest includes 1991 champion Ian Woosnam, who claws himself back to +5 with his third birdie in four holes at 15, Luke Donald (+4 after four), Jamie Donaldson (+2 after three) and Graeme McDowell (+1 after seven).

  9. No dancing for Sandypublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Sandy LyleImage source, Getty Images

The 1988 Masters winner Sandy Lyle sticks his ball down on the tee at the iconic 12th - the 155-yard par-three Golden Bell. Remarkably, no-one has bagged an ace here since Lyle squeezed into the Green Jacket.

That man was Curtis Strange, whose short-iron shot arrowed straight towards the pin, bounced once and gently rolled into the cup. And the American still had the decency to repair his pitch-mark before picking out his ball and lobbing it in the water that fronts the green.

Anyway...Lyle can't end that barren run but the veteran Scot does stick his ball onto the middle of the dancefloor. Lyle, five over for the day, will be wiggling his hips if he sinks this 28-foot putt... Nope. That joyous jig must wait. He two putts for a par.

England's Justin Rose will get his second round under way in a little under 75 minutes. He's found time to interact on social media today, though, posting on Instagram:, external "Let's do this!! #RoundTwo"

  11. Day moves into second spotpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Jason DayImage source, Getty Images

Jason Day is always there or there abouts in major tournaments. Can he finally step from the shadows and into the limelight? The Australian makes up for the bogey on the first with a super eagle on the second. A 235 approach shot left a 10ft putt and - in - it - went. Day, alone in second spot, now four shots behind Spieth.

Chuck: Never doubt Tiger, he's the best and will be for a long time. Shame revision is getting in the way of me drooling over his play.

Andrew, Esher: Spieth playing for fun, good isn't he? Rory who?

Tom, Canterbury: Spieth v McIlroy could become a regular major event. Hope so. Would certainly be more fun than one man dominating for 10 years.

  13. Spieth extends his leadpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Jordan SpiethImage source, EPA

And Jordan Spieth is into double digits. A nerveless start from the overnight leader as he birdies the par-four fifth thanks to a fabulous approach shot which positioned him 18ft from the pin. The American is 10 under overall, two under for the day. But Jason Day has eagled the second... tasty...

Augusta ChronicleImage source, The Augusta Chronicle

Being a sports journalist for the Augusta Chronicle newspaper, external isn't a bad gig - especially during the second week in April. Unsurprisingly, Jordan Spieth's brilliant 64 dominates their back page on Friday. Could he threaten the course record again today?

  15. Harrington tumbles downpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Padraig HarringtonImage source, Getty Images

The projected cut is currently at three over, which means Padraig Harrington is in danger of missing out on the weekend action - but that's what happens when you bogey three of the first seven holes. Talk was that the Dubliner had turned the tide after winning the Honda Classic in a play-off - his first PGA Tour win since 2008 - but he is unlikely to trouble the leaderboard on the final two days on this form.

Whoa! Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee delves into his box of tricks and comes up with an eagle on the par-four third. The 45-year-old stuck it down the drain, as they say, from 98 yards. Magical.

  18. Birdies for Els & Oosthuizenpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

    Ernie ElsImage source, Getty Images

It's still on, everyone. It's still on! Ernie Els birdies the par-five eighth to nibble at Jordan Spieth's lead. The American now four shots ahead, with Els once more tied for second. Louis Oosthuizen creeping up the leaderboard, too. The South African birdies the same hole to go -4 for the tournament. These are exciting times. No, really, they are.

  19. BBC Sport votepublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

Wow. I'd have placed a small fortune on Rory McIlroy winning our first vote of the day. And I'd have lost it. That's because the majority of you think Justin Rose will finish as the highest-placed UK golfer following his blistering start yesterday.

    Justin Rose: 46.8%

    Rory McIlroy: 35.1%

    Paul Casey: 6.2%

    Other: 2.5%

    Ian Poulter: 2.3%

    Lee Westwood: 2.2%

    Stephen Gallacher: 2.0%

    Graeme McDowell: 1.6%

    Danny Willett: 1.3%

  20. McDowell falteringpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 10 April 2015

A bogey for Graeme McDowell on the par-three fourth. It was a marvellous 222-yard tee shot onto the green, but the Northern Irishman missed a four-foot putt and drops to level overall, +1 for the day. Doing ever so slightly better is Hunter Mahan, opening with a bogey, birdie, birdie to go -1 for the day, +2 overall.
