Tom Watson,, external the 1982 US Open champion: Will be watching the U.S. Open pressure cooker today. Really feel for the leaders having to start so late.

Maybe broccoli, cauliflower and manure - all referenced when discussing the Chambers Bay greens this weekend - are more common in golf course design in Taiwan.

Cheng-Tsung Pan got all the way through his Chambers Bay campaign without a single three-putt until finally coughing one up on the 13th today.

Shot of the day so far has come from the grizzled paws of two-time champion Ernie Els.

The Big Easy splashed out of a greenside bunker on 16 and straight in for an eagle two. And the crowd lapped it up.

The South African is pootling down the last as I type with a +11 next to his name.

The two groups containing our leading quartet do not get under way until 22:48 BST and 23:00 BST respectively.

But there are plenty of players hacking their way around Chambers Bay already.

Lee Westwood (a level par round for a nine-over finish) and Phil Mickelson (three over for a +13 total) are already resting up with their campaigns already done and dusted.

Rory McIlroy is one under through four to shake down to three over overall.

The biggest waves have been made by American Billy Horshel who is four under for the day after 14 holes. That has taken him to three over. Probably not causing any tremors up the top of the leaderboard, but proving that there are some low scores to be shot out there.

So we have two questions for you to weigh in on today.

Firstly and simply, who is your winner and why?

Secondly, what is the most useful or useless bit of golf gadgetry that you have given or received for Fathers Day?

I mean, how often do you break out the ball retriever to hook a wayward shot out of the drink? How often do you scrub the ball clean with a specialist little machine rather than give it a quick rub on your trousers or towel? And how many pitch repairers do you really need?

The final day of the US Open is traditionally a Fathers' Day treat.

And plenty of the players have been playing tribute to the old man.

Justin Rose has had the name of his late father Ken emblazoned on his bag.

Rory McIlory has has his own message for Mr McIlroy senior on the tongues of his spikes.

If any of the four men in the leading group end up with their mitts on the US Open trophy in seven hours or so, then the newspaper profile pieces almost write themselves.

But in truth realistically any one of the leading 14 players could end up victorious as we head into the final round.

This is what the top of the leaderboard looks like:

    -4: Day, Johnson, Grace, Spieth

    -1: Oosthuizen, Smith, Lowry, Holmes

+1: Snedecker, Romero, Stenson, Finau, Liuiten, Reed
