If it is possibly your penultimate Masters round, then why not play with a ball resembling a chocolate football.

Who knows what two-time Masters champ Tom Watson is pulling out of the bag tomorrow? A golden ball perhaps.

The 66-year-old - in his last Masters remember -  might still even be here for the weekend. What a treat that would be.

Huck is back into the clubhouse, tucking into his pimento cheese sandwich, with a two-over card in his back pocket.

  2. Birdie for McIlroypublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    McIlroy (-1 after 2)

A look inside today's Augusta Chronicle provides us with a sweep of selections from the media this week.

Rory McIlroy is the clear pick ahead of Jason Day. Over to you Rory...nice start too. Up and down for birdie on two. Encouragingly all three of McIlroy's drives have found the fairway, an element of the game he has struggled with this season.

  3. 'Remarkable' Spiethpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent at Augusta National

"It is remarkable. Last year Spieth came into The Masters in the mix, after being a runner up coming into it but this year his form has been much more patchy.

"This is someone who has made three Masters appearances, a runner up to Bubba Watson, victory last year and now he leads at five-under-par.

"The British players are showing up very nicely but in the shadow of Jordan Spieth."

  4. Casey moves within onepublished at 19:43

    Spieth (-5 after 16), Casey (-4 after 16)

Look over your shoulder Jordan, someone is coming up on the rails. That someone is his playing partner Paul Casey. The Englishman also joins the 'twos' club, gliding his short iron on the dangerously-splashtastic 16 within a one-handed putt of the birdie.

No showboating from Casey obvs, making sure with the tiddler to trim the leader's advantage to just one.

Spieth misses the dancefloor, fails to find his groove with a heavy chip, then pulls out a magic move to save the day.

  5. Fowler's clubhouse 80published at 19:43 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Fowler (+8 after 18)

Rickie Fowler is currently second last on eight over, only Robert Streb is a short worse off.

What an unbelievable round for Fowler, a man so often tipped to win a first major. A double-bogey first set the tone, an eight on 13 did serious damage, a double-bogey on 16 sealed his miserable fate. Surely Masters exit looms tomorrow.

  6. Birdie for Day...published at 19:39 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Day (-3 after five)

    Jason DayImage source, Getty Images

The world number one could really send a message with a quick start and he looks intent.

Short sleeves fluttering in this wind, Jason Day is walking after his ball quickly, he knows it's in. A full 15ft from left to right, boom, rattles into the cup. This is an ominous start, the leaderboard is looking stacked already.

Any of the outsiders are feeling very much like outsiders right now.

    Donaldson (+1 after 12)

Not many have dipped their hand into the 'twos' pot yet. But Jamie Donaldson has. The Welshman hears a huge roar from about 150 yards behind him. That's because he has plopped a birdie putt into the can on the iconic par-three 12th.

  8. Birdie boy Dannypublished at 19:34 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Willett (-1 after three)

Danny Willett stands over his ball on the fringe of the green, not quite on the putting surface... oh stop it Danny!

In she goes and that's birdie number one of the day for the Sheffield man, lovely sink, 18ft or so.

  9. Jay on Erniepublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Jay Townsend
Former American professional golfer on BBC Radio 5 live

"A start like Ernie Els' is really disappointing. It ruins your week. There is no way back, even if you play well.

"Ernie has had this problem for a while, he's been yippy. Right now I am sure his head is just spinning."

  10. What have you missed?published at 19:33 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

Just joining us? Where have you been? There's two big stories of the day, one at each of the leaderboard. Defending champion Jordan Spieth leads by three shots at five under in a bogey-free round that has seen birdies at three, six, eight, 10 and 13.

While Spieth has been brilliant, Ernie Els has had a shocker. The South African took a 10 (ten) at the first, a Masters record for that hole. From three feet, he needed seven putts.

In between, the British charge has started well. Paul Casey, Justin Rose and Ian Poulter are all in the pack that chase Spieth on two under. Rory McIlroy has just got under way.

    Scott (+1 after 12)

Adam Scott...where's he been hiding today?! Not down Birdie Avenue that's for sure. Until now! The Aussie, proud owner of a custom-made Green Jacket he eyed up in 2013, sinks only his second of the day - and it is the first on the 11th. AKA the hardest hole on the course. No mean feat in this ever-blustery wind.

  12. Casey could share lead...published at 19:27 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Casey (-3 after 15), Piercy (-3 after 4)

You have to capitalise on the par fives at Augusta and Paul Casey does just that on 15. From the bunker he clips his third shot to within four feet. Now, can he sink it? You bet.

Three under for Casey, a mark shared with Scott Piercy who has flown out of the traps after four holes.

To 16, par three of course...joyous from Casey, over the pin and within four feet. He could be level with Jordan Spieth after this hole as his playing partner goes way right off the tee.

Spieth in a mess, Casey on the dancefloor.

    McIlroy (level after 1)

Jingle-jangle. Rory McIlroy sticks his second a few short of the green. Bring out out the sat nav! He's taken a wrong turn. But he brings out a special little dink within three feet. Tap in for a par.

  14. Westwood in the clubhousepublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Westwood (-1 after 18)

    Lee westwoodImage source, .

Run through this field and in the likes of Lee Westwood and Vijay Singh you'll find nine men who have been world number one, just like Jason Day is now.

Surely 'Westy' has missed his Augusta chance now though? Maybe not, the world number 67 may not have won on the PGA or European Tour in nearly two years but a one-under-par 71 is a respectable start on a day like today.

Westy made bogey on 18. Costly.

    Stenson (-1 after 11)

Stenson's first shot is a goner. The world number six trudges back across Hogan Bridge to the tee box. This time, his effort on the 155-yard par three finds the dancefloor.

  17. Spieth leads by threepublished at 19:15

    Stenson (-1 after 11)

So here's the deal. Jordan Spieth leads by three, Rory is strolling down the first, Els is trending on Twitter (and not for the right reasons).

Pristine white trousers are Augusta 2016's favoured look. Hope there is plenty of high-quality washing powder knocking about in Georgia. Henrik Stenson's cricket whites are in serious danger. He's scrambling about in the thick stuff at the back of the 12th green...

  18. Bogey for Rosepublished at 19:13 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Rose (-2 after 11)

Justin Rose gives one back and that leaves Jordan Spieth with a three-shot lead. Rose was left with a lengthy putt on 11 and fell some 15 inches short with it. The former US Open champion has had a mixed round, two bogeys, four birdies.
