  1. Who's your pick?published at 18:30 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

We hope you haven't bet on Ernie Els Harry.

  2. That's ugly!published at 18:29 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

Someone dust off the record books! Ernie Els is having an absolute howler on the first hole. I feel so sorry for the Big Easy that I'm struggling to even write this....deep breath...Ernie has carded a 10 (ten) on the first. Wowzers.

Surely up there with the worst opening holes at Augusta. I'd back myself - a 15-handicapper with a dodgy knee - to better that...

  3. Double bogey for Dustin...published at 18:26 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    D Johnson (+1 after 11)

Amen Corner, a term coined by legendary sports writer Herbert Warren Wind in 1958, strictly refers to the 11th, 12th and 13th holes.

It has hurt the cards of Victor Dubuisson and now Dustin Johnson, who makes double bogey on 11.

Johnson is now one over par, five off the pace.

"If you can get through those in level par you're a happy man," says BBC golf commentator Ken Brown.

    Spieth (-4 after 12), Casey (-1 after 12)

Boom, boom. The double fist-pump is already out. Jordan Spieth makes hard work of saving par on Golden Bell. You know, that short par three? Hogan's Bridge? Rae's Creek? Course you do!

Spieth finds the back of the green...not enough beef on his chip back...holds his nerve to sink in a five footer.

Not so good news for playing partner Paul Casey. Back to back bogeys for the Englishman. He drops back into a not-so-select group of 14 players on one under.

On the tee from Australia....Jason Day! Another three-ball, another Major winner. In fact, there's two. World number one Day, one of the tournament favourites obvs, is joined alongside former Open champion Ernie Els and Matt Kuchar. Game on for those fellas...

    **Snowman alert**

Oh dear! Fowler does indeed have to scrawl a horrible blob on his card. Us club golfers know all about those card-wreckers, Rickie. The snazzy American lags his 15-footer seventh shot, tapping in for the tainted treble.

    Fowler (+1 after 12)

We shouldn't really laugh, but doesn't it make you smirk when you see one of the world's best golfers having a stinker? It does me. Then again I love a bit of schadenfreude.

Rickie Fowler's having one on 13...a snowman might be on the card...

Pine, crowd, drink, over the green, heavy chip...he's done it all.

    B Watson (-1 after 1)

Bubba Watson crushing the ball down a wide, green, crisp fairway. It fits like an old, trusted, snug golf glove. This man has got game.

Watson has won here twice before and that is perhaps why the bookmakers make him fourth favourite behind the Day-Spieth-McIlroy trio.

And it is business as usual for the leftie, taming the first.

Just found a discarded egg salad sandwich on the bench by the 13th tee! Don't mind if I do!!

    Rebecca A Allen from Clapton

Hopefully you read our entry earlier today Rebecca.

Tom Watson leaves an egg salad sandwich on the bench at the 13th tee for his late caddie and friend Bruce Edwards.

Edwards used to always eat his sandwich on the 13th tee as it's one of the only quiet parts of the course and there's often a wait before teeing off.

    Spieth (-4 after 11)

Tricky? Pah! Tricky for us mere mortals, not for Jordan Spieth. The early leader cans his par putt with ease, didn't even touch the sides. The defending champ leads by two...

  12. Postpublished at 18:05

Spieth has an uneven stance, his ball balancing precariously on the left fringe of the 11th green. Birdie chance nonetheless. Sinking this would be a bigger miracle than Leicester City winning the Premier League. He's lagged it. And his par putt isn't easy...

Rickie Fowler goes from crowd to drink on 13, while back on 11 Spieth's playing partner Paul Casey ploughs a par putt wide. Spieth two ahead - for the moment...

John McEnerney: Big Henrik to fly the flag for Europe, up there with Garcia as 1 of the best without a major, hoping he'll be on top come Sunday.

Ben Ramage: Great to see a Cheltenham boy leading the Masters, even if only for a minute! #wheredidheparkthetractor.

Ross McCarthy: Azaleas. Ray's. Crow's. Amen. Magnolia. Jacket. Alliss. Brown. Rory. Augusta. Masters. Perfection.

    Fowler (+1 after 12)

Fooooore!!! Rickie Fowler slaps his second on 13 out of the pine trees, but he's not troubling the fairway. He's bothering the crowd. Patrons scatter, hands over their heads. Fowler has his hands over his face. Not what he wants to see.

    Spieth (-4 after 10)

Jordan Spieth can't do anything wrong. Oh actually... The defending champ pushes his shot right from the 11th tee...thump...into the wood chippings. Tricky.

Dig it out, bend it through the pine trees, somewhere near the green will do. That's the the hope. He's nailed it!

Not only is Spieth near the green...he's on it. Stunning.

  16. Eagle on 13...published at 17:55 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

    Hoffmann (level after 13)

What's that noise from over yonder? Charley Hoffman draws a huge roar from the crowd on the par-five 13th. The American sinks from off the green to land just the second eagle we have seen today.

Back to level par and that could be a round changer.

    Fowler (+1 after 12), Z Johnson (E after 12)

He doesn't like it! Rickie Fowler, eyeballing the open fairway of the 13th, lets go of his double-handed grip of his driver. Think he's pushed it right. Uh oh. Long way around that dogleg on this eagle-able par five. Open champion Zach Johnson goes next, playing safe without the big dog, knocking one down the middle. Position A.

  20. Poulter under waypublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 7 April 2016

Now many of us have lived and breathed his Ryder Cup fist pumps. Ian Poulter is like a man possessed in the team-format event, so why does he seemingly crumble when these individual chances come up?

Does he just not have the game? Or is there just a weakness in his psyche?

Tied sixth is his best at this track and he's been second in the Open Championship.

Poulter has no wins on the European or PGA Tour since 2012. So will he forever rue not delivering for himself in the way he has for his team?
