    Unbelievable!

Somebody just hand Webb Simpson the winner's cheque now...

The American sticks his approach in a bunker way beyond the flag at 11, but nonchalantly clips out of the sand on to the green and watches it run and run and run all the way into the heart of the cup.

    Perfect.

  2. Varner hits the birdie trainpublished at 22:18 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    H Varner III -9 (17)

Harold Varner III is on the move. Three birdies in a row for the American, as he goes to nine under par.

He's recovered well from four bogeys in his first 10 holes.

A cracking approach to within a putter's length of the pin at 17th is tucked away with ease, and complemented by a huge smile.

  3. Birdie for Leepublished at 22:13 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    D Lee -11 (11)

E.E.E.E.E.E.E.E.E.E... and then a birdie for Danny Lee on the 11th!

The New Zealander breaks his par streak to go one under for the day but more importantly, 11 under for the tournament - and outright second.

  6. Day tied for secondpublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    J Day -10 (11), D Johnson -9 (15)

With the race for top spot at the Players Championship currently looking as one-sided as a Manchester City title charge, the steady jog for second is hotting up a little.

Jason Day has just birdied the 11th to go level with Danny Lee at 10 under, while world number one Dustin Johnson makes it two birdies in his last three holes to move to nine under through 15.

  7. 'I am raging right now'published at 22:00 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    I Poulter -8 (F)

Ian Poulter, speaking to Sky Sports, after a double bogey on the 18th: "There was a lot of good stuff today. It was always going to be tricky in the wind. I thought the course was receptive and I could get at some pins.

"I'm going to not use expletives on television but I need to go hit some balls for 20 minutes to clear the few brain cells I've got left up there.

"It was a decent round, but then there is the double at the last. I am a little agitated and frustrated right now. I am raging right now."

It was time for the reporters to don their tin hats when Ian Poulter emerged from the recorder's office.

"I'm raging right now," he said, and that was the cleanest version of his post round sentiments.

The Englishman was absolutely seething after signing his card following the double bogey at the last which cost him a share of second place.

Stand by your beds...here's more from the man himself...

Webb Simpson has popped his tee shot beyond the path flanking the 10th fairway and it's nestled among the pine straw.

No bother. He thwacks it out of the hay and up towards the flag to remain on course for par.

  14. Simpson extends lead to seven strokespublished at 21:46 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    W Simpson -17, C Schwartzel -9 (9)

Charl Schwartzel is fuming after his latest birdie putt stays up. He's pointing at his putter, his caddie, anyone within moaning distance... eventually the South African pops in for par.

Webb Simpson sizes up his birdie putt. Eight feet from home, a seven-shot lead the prize. Down it goes, with serious oopmh!

The American raises his ball to the crowd. They love that.

  15. Postpublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    W Simpson -16, C Schwartzel -9 (8)

Webb Simpson has a good look at the flag. He's a few yards short of the green, and just opts for a pitch and run on to the dance floor.

It's a little hotter than he hoped for, but pulls up a little past the pin.

  16. Birdie for Johnsonpublished at 21:41 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

Dustin Johnson just reminds everyone he's still out here, and squeezes inside the top 10 with a birdie at the 13th - he needs to stay there to keep the number one spot this weekend.

  17. Double bogey for Poulterpublished at 21:39 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    I Poulter -8 (69)

Ian Poulter on the 18th, with a chance to share the clubhouse lead...

Ouchy! Having taken two strokes to get out of the bunker, he two-putts for a double bogey.

I wouldn't fancy having to interview him after that - he drops back to the group that includes Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood on eight under.

A small crumb of comfort? It was a three-under 69 so he did improve his overall score.

    I Poulter -10 (17)

    Sorry, Poults.

Just as I was suggesting the Englishman might cut the lead on Webb Simpson even further, he fails to make it out of a greenside bunker at the 18th.

Take two. That's much better. But it's likely to be a bogey five...

  20. Birdie for Poulterpublished at 21:30 British Summer Time 12 May 2018

    I Poulter -10 (17)

Ian Poulter senses the leader dropping shots up ahead, and responds with a birdie to take a share of second.

Another on the 18th and he'll be well placed heading into the final day...
