That is why Oosthuizen has never won a major in America. There was no smack to that. He has been tentative all day for me.

  2. Mickelson saves par as Oosthuizen misses birdiepublished at 23:47 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (16)

Phil Mickelson has been an aggressive player his entire career and he gives his 30-footer for birdie on 16 a real rattle. The ball is right on line but it's going way too fast and smashes into the back of the hole, jumping six inches into the air.

Thankfully, that also checks the ball's momentum and Phil is left with a three-footer for par, instead of about 10!

He has a little wait to think about it while Louis Oosthuizen misses another short birdie putt.

Solid from Mickelson, who nails his par putt to remain in a share of the lead.

    Bezuidenhout -3, Matsuyama E (17)

Very few shots of Hideki Matsuyama since he tumbled out of sight on the top page of the leaderboard.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout has pulled a shot closer to the leaders and will fancy his chances of best-ever major finish and possibly challenging if he can pop in a birdie on the 18th.

In case you are wondering the South African's best finish at a major came in the 2020 Masters when he finished T38.

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (15)

Phil Mickelson is a magician with a wedge in his hand. What can he conjure up here? He's deep in conversation with his caddie, who also happens to be his brother Tim.

They've discussed numerous options. He's coming straight over a big area of waste bunker. It's high and into the centre of the green and spinning back and away from the hole. Outside birdie chance.

Louis Oosthuizen has a hump and a hollow to negotiate. He's going to take the high route. Pitches it on the front edge, the ball releasing out to six feet.

    Streelman -4 (F)

It's a bogey finish for Streelman but that's still a round of 70, putting him on four under for the tournament and as it stands he'll be in the penultimate group tomorrow.

    That's some effort.

  6. Birdie gives Koepka a share of the leadpublished at 23:37 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Koepka -7, Grace -2 (16)

Koepka heaves a magnificent three wood the best part of 280 yards to set up an eagle try on the 16th and although he rattles that one beyond the hole, he converts on the way back to move to seven under and into a share of the lead.

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (15)

    Anthony Wall

He's got it back in play and he has given himself an 80 or 100-yard pitch for three. When his tee shot was in the air that had a six or seven all over it.

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (15)

Phil Mickelson sticks a tee peg next to his ball and the buggy is carefully driven away. It looks like a decent lie but he's got a bit of an awkward stance. He'd have been fine as a right hander.

No bother for Phil, who carves a shot a decent way down the fairway. He's still got a good chance of making a birdie here.

Louis Oosthuizen pushes his second a touch right but he's got a simple chip on to the green from 20 yards.

  9. Mickelson in trouble off the teepublished at 23:31 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (15)

Finally. The Phil Mickelson we've all come to expect materialises on the par-five 16th.

He's out with the driver on the 600-yard hole and immediately knows he's messed that one up. A big hook down the right. A belated cry of "fore" and the crowd scatters. His ball looks as ended up underneath the tyre of a golf buggy.

Louis Oosthuizen has already driven his ball much straighter, toppling at the last into the first cut.

  10. Streelman saves parpublished at 23:29 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Streelman -5 (17)

Lovely sand save from Streelman on 17 as he finds the bunker, sorry, waste area, with his tee shot but sticks his effort close enough to save par.

  11. Solid parspublished at 23:25 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (15)

It's Phil Mickelson to putt first. Up and over a hummock in between his ball and the hole. The pace is perfect. The line two feet off. He'll mark that.

Louis Oosthuizen from across the green. A lovely putt that needed two more revolutions. Par.

    Phil to tidy up. Par.

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (14)

Louis Oosthuizen gets first pop at the green on 15, from 188 yards. He finishes pin-high, about 25 feet to the left of the hole.

Phil Mickelson is 45-50 yards closer in after a 327-yard drive - the third longest of the day on this hole. A wedge of some description in hand, the ball thuds into the green, about 20 feet short and spins back a few more.

There's barely a breath of wind in the air - a far cry from the first two days when a strong breeze buffeted the course.

  13. Postpublished at 23:21 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Koepka -6, Grace -2 (15)

Couple of pars for our group as Koepka can't get his second shot close enough to get a realistic birdie try so he remains on six under.

    Bezuidenhout -2, Matsuyama E (15)

A par on the 15th for Hideki Matsuyama. His terrible string of dropped shots finally comes to a halt.

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (14)

Four to play for our leader.

Phil Mickelson is out with the driver on the par-four 15th. He's had a couple of wobbles with his previous big smashes off the tee, although they were both with 3-woods.

The big dog is working fine. Normal service (for today at any rate) resumed with a huge thwack down the middle.

Louis Oosthuizen, who had the honour, walked off the tee while his ball was still in the air so satisfied was he with his strike.

  16. Bogey for Caseypublished at 23:09 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Casey -1 (17)

The first TV pictures of Paul Casey for a while zone in a par-saving putt on the 17th.

Needless to say, it did not drop. It's been a battling but pretty frustrating round for the Englishman so far.

Still he's one of 11 players currently under par.

  17. Opportunity missedpublished at 23:09 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (14)

Louis Oosthuizen from the back edge of the 14th green. Hits a decent putt but it's not going to turn in from the right. Par.

Right then Phil. Can you get back one of those two shots dropped at the last?

It looks pretty straight. He starts the ball in the middle of the hole and it dives left at the last. Par.

  19. Birdie putts coming uppublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Mickelson -7, Oosthuizen -6 (13)

After a wait of five minutes while Branden Grace played pinball across the 14th green, Louis Oosthuizen hits his tee shot.

It's straight at the pin but unlike his fellow South African's ball, Oosthuizen's stays on the back edge of the green. Just. Fifteen feet for birdie.

What can Phil Mickelson do? Superb shot. He lands his ball in the middle of the dancefloor and it feeds down to the hole to set up a big birdie chance from half a dozen feet.

  20. Streelman strikespublished at 23:05 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Streelman -5 (16)

Kevin Streelman plays the 16th perfectly to sink a six-foot birdie putt and at five under he's now just two back!

Streelman is three under for his round today and that's the best score of the top 10 up to now, tough finish to negotiate yet though.
