It's bounced around the area again - the Irish couldn't clear - and Kelly Jonker has slapped it home with a powerful backhand.

This Netherlands team is so quick. The first effort is brilliantly saved by Irish keeper Ayeisha McFerran but Kelly Jonker is on the rebound in a flash. She fires in with a clever backhand flick.

Ireland aren't going to rush anything. The ball is played back to Elena Tice a couple of times in defence. Tice is just 20 years old and is also a talented cricketer. She made her debut for Ireland's senior cricket team aged 13.

I don't think Ireland showed any nerves at all. They're trying their best to penetrate the Netherlands circle - which they've done a couple of times - but they haven't tested the keeper yet.

But it's tough. Netherlands are the world number ones and when they get a head of steam up they can be difficult to stop.

Beeeeeeeeep. There's the end of the first quarter. The Netherlands lead.

The Irish fans scream as their side come forward again. It comes to nothing but is a positive finish to the opening quarter.

Ireland need to keep their shape and stick to their game plan. At the moment it's backs to the wall, but there's still plenty of time.

They need to move the ball around and get it into the channels. The Dutch don't like being worked over, so the Ireland girls need to get them chasing back towards their own goal.

It’s like a home game for Ireland here. Every tackle, pass and circle entry is met with a huge roar. No idea how they all got tickets but they found a way. Ireland, despite trailing, are not overawed.

The Netherlands are brimming with confidence. They press high to intercept and win another penalty corner after the ball hits an Irish foot. The Netherlands work this one better and get a clearer opening but miss again. Ireland will be relieved to end this first quarter one goal down.

John McEnerney: Ireland may not be a hockey powerhouse but the way ladies in green have played has generated powerhouse support at home no matter what happens they’ve done themselves and a nation proud!

The penalty corner is missed by the team dressed all in orange. Lauren Stam has the effort on goal but it goes wide.

This is just the second time Ireland have been behind in the tournament. The Irish crowd has been quietened.

I think Ayeisha McFerran will be disappointed with that - her foot just seemed to get caught in the turf. Ireland need to strike back quickly here.

Ah. Not the start Ireland needed.

It's a bit of a scramble inside the circle but eventually Netherlands get a clean shot away through Lidewij Welten. It goes through a few bodies and sneaks in at the near post.

If I was the Dutch coach here I would be telling them to move the ball at a pace the Irish aren't used to - get it moving really quickly and play at a high tempo.

For Ireland, they just need to work harder than the Dutch, win the ball back, and then consolidate possession.

Ireland definitely seem to have the crowd on their side. They scream Anna O’Flanagan on when as charges forward from midfield.

She's stopped in her tracks by a cynical Dutch tackle.

"Booooooooooo".

Emily Beatty was one of the last two players from the squad so she comes straight in and she knows everything around the squad.

The change won't have disrupted them too much so I expect Ireland to bounce out in around five minutes time.

It's a positive start from Ireland. They're the team on the front foot before Frederique Matla has the game's first shot for the Dutch.

Ireland suffered a setback before this match. Former captain Megan Frazer was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Emily Beatty was called-up to the squad this morning. Not a bad phone call to receive on a Sunday morning. "Hiya, fancy a World Cup final."
