O'Faolains Boy wins the RSA Chase.
O'Faolains Boy is making a show...
Ballycasey leads just ahead of Smad Place coming into the home straight.
Black Thunder is out of the race, but back on his feet straight away. Jockey Nick Scholfield is A-OK as well. Don Cossack goes at the next and then Le Bec follows. The runners inexperience is starting to tell.
The field was strung out like pizza mozzarella, but Corrin Wood is slowly pegged back and they are now massing in the leader's shadow.
Annacotty is leading chase up to leader Corrin Wood who has cranked open a gap of about four or five lengths on the rest.
They have got away at a lively pace with Corrin Wood pushing the tempo.
Smad Place has clocked up third-place finishes in the last two World Hurdles so has plenty of pedigree and likes the course. The drying ground is in his favour as well.
Peter Webb:, external Faugheen VERY impressive. Cruised through 2m5f. World Hurdle next season?
Carlingford Lough suffered a loss to Ballycasey at Leopardstown last time out, but scored a victory over Morning Assembly at the same track in December. There is plenty of stamina in his legs to deal with the rigours of Cleeve Hill as well.
It is nip and tuck in the market for this one with Carlingford Lough nudging favouritism ahead of Ballycasey, Smad Place and Morning Assembly.
Did you know the 35 to 40 minutes between races is precisely matched to the average time it takes a racegoer to stick a pin in a racecard, queue up at a bookmaker and fight their way back from the bar with a tray of refreshments?
Probably anyway.
On to the next. The RSA Chase.
Be it a touchline blizzard at Wycombe, spring sunshine at the races or the heat of a World Cup in Rio, legendary football commentator John Motson knows the fashion score. Sheepskin never goes out of style.
Ryder Cup stalwart Lee Westwood would have been an interested viewer of that race back in Florida. Westwood bought second-placed Ballyalton for his dad for Christmas three years ago.
Certainly beats the pair of socks that my old man usually gets.
Westwood junior had flights booked to get back to catch the race in person, but opted to stay Stateside for more practice instead., external
After setting that sort of standard in Christmas presents he probably needs the prizemoney.

Faugheen's jockey Ruby Walsh tells BBC Radio 5 live: "He's a good horse, Willie always said he was. He went didn't he? He's a smashing horse and it was a pleasure to ride him."
BBC Radio 5 live
Faugheen's owner Rich Ricci tells BBC Radio 5 live: "That was magic, just brilliant. Willie [Mullins] has been brilliant in keeping him right, I'm delighted for him. He's always had a bad back so has had lots of exercise. There is not a lot to him. It's just extraordinary.
"His jumping was a concern but the way he took the last was superb."
BBC Radio 5 live
BBC Radio 5 live's Luke Harvey: "That was as straightforward a win as you'll ever seen in a Championship race. He was cantering along and has gears. You can see why he's such a good horse."
1. Faugheen R Walsh 6-4 Fav
2. Ballyalton W Kennedy 20-1
3. Rathvinden P Townend 11-2
4. Killala Quay R Johnson
Wednesday begins as Tuesday did with a Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins' double act sweeping to victory. It was Vautour 24 hours ago and this time Faugheen stretched away from the rest to win by seven or eight lengths in the end.
