"People are still assessing how this year's Gold Cup goes down in terms of quality, but in terms of drama it was simply extraordinary.
"As though the string of earlier spills, which left several jockeys in hospital, plus two big-race false starts weren't enough, Lord Windermere appeared from practically nowhere to grab the spoils very, very late.
"A lengthy stewards' inquiry at Hexham on a Tuesday is tense enough, but after argy-bargy towards the end of the ultimate race of the jumps season it is virtually unbearable.
"Some said it hung in the balance for those long minutes, but others that it would take a brave set of officials to change such an important result, and it wasn't changed.
"Now, the planning to bring Lord Windermere back in 2015 to defend his crown will begin. It's hard, as members of the Bobs Worth team (5th) found out, and they also know it's even harder to regain after loss. Only Kauto Star has ever done that."
Of course, Lord Windermere will dominate the headlines in tomorrow's newspapers. Here's the Gold Cup verdict from our racing expert...
And so ends Cheltenham Festival 2014. BBC Radio 5 live have published their montage of this week's meeting. Go and have a listen to our highlights in two minutes.
Earlier you will recall that jockey Daryl Jacob was injured when he was thrown from his horse, Port Melon, before the start of the Novices' Hurdle. Jacob was taken to hospital for assessment, and trainer Paul Nicholls has told Racing UK: "It's not great news, I'm afraid. It's been confirmed at the hospital he's broken his knee, his leg and his elbow.
"He's going to be operated on tomorrow morning. It's devastating for him and is going to put him out for a while. I've seen the video of the incident and it's horrific. Obviously, he's desperately disappointed, but I'm glad he rode that winner on Lac Fontana. He's ridden a winner, he's in good spirits, but it's terrible news having an injury like that."

Former jockey Luke Harvey: "AP McCoy took a crunching fall on the last and they've got the screens up. He's got up now, but he looks in a bit of pain."
1. Savello (D N Russell) 16-1
2. Ned Buntline (P Carberry) 6-1 Jt Fav
3. Claret Cloak (N Fehily 6-1) Jt Fav
4. Next Sensation (R Johnson) 7-1
That's another win for Davy Russell, his third victory of the day. And another victory for the Gigginstown House Stud.
And Savello edges ahead of Next Sensation at the end to win the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase Challenge Cup Handicap.
Here comes Savello...
Claret Cloak in second makes a mistake as Ned Buntline makes a bid. Still Next Sensation though...
Easter Meteor is brought down as the chasing pack tries to reel in Next Sensation. That lead is five lengths now.
Next Sensation is 10 lengths clear, although that's still three miles behind Oscar Hill!

Former jockey Luke Harvey: "I'd be amazed if Next Sensation keeps up this pace."
Next Sensation has opened up a massive lead early on. Has he gone too early though?
Here we go then. The final race of the 2014 Cheltenham Festival is off and running.
A big cheer goes around the course as Oscar Hill finally stops. I think he's in Bristol now.
Oscar Hill is still tearing around the track. He's having a great time, seemingly going faster as jockey Tom O'Brien tries to pull him back.

"Oscar Hill has gone off on one like Forrest Gump and is currently ploughing round the cross country course but we can't start this final race until he's brought under control."

Former Jockey Luke Harvey: "Claret Cloak has got the film star looks for the his final race under Noel Fehily, but we'll see if he's got enough in the tank to go with it."
