Her latest victory at Royal Ascot, her 23rd, came last year as Dartmouth came home in a pulsating Hardwicke Stakes.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained horse is her last hope of picking up a victory this year, and has a good chance, having won the Yorkshire Cup on the Knavesmire last month.

One of the most remarkable Royal Ascot moments of all time came in 2013, when Estimate, owned by Her Majesty, won the Gold Cup.

The crowd will hope to have something to cheer about today, as the Queen hopes to continue her sporting success.

He has a plethora of winning chances today too.

Who will snatch the title of leading jockey at this year's Royal Ascot? It looks like a straight heat between Ryan Moore and William Buick.

Moore has particularly good chances with September in the Chesham Stakes and Dartmouth in the Hardwicke Stakes.

    Jockeys

Buick meanwhile, could be sensing victory in two races, aboard Masar in the Chesham Stakes and Qewy in the Queen Alexandra Stakes.

    It could get tight.

  7. Royal Ascot: A brief historypublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Adam Whitty
    BBC South

It was Queen Anne in 1711 that first saw the potential for a racecourse at Ascot (in those days called East Cote). The first race meeting ever held at Ascot took place later that year.

The first permanent building was erected around 1794 by a local Windsor builder, it held just 1,600 people.

The precise origins of the Royal Meeting are unclear, as the event evolved from the first four-day meeting that took place in 1768.

The meeting as it’s known today only really started to take shape with the introduction of the Gold Cup in 1807.

  11. 'The Queen deserves a winner'published at 10:45 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Tim Dellor
    BBC Berkshire Sport at Ascot

How are we all doing for energy? Have you paced yourself through the five days or are you floundering like a favourite in the final furlong who has given too much early in the race?

One person who knows exactly how to pace herself is Her Majesty the Queen – but what a pace. In a week that has seen her deliver The Queen’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament, her husband be admitted to hospital, and cope with record breaking temperatures at the world’s most famous race meeting, the least she deserves is a winner.

Dartmouth may just deliver that in the Hardwicke Stakes at 15:40. Dartmouth’s win in the same race last year was one of the most popular wins of the year.

The big Group 1 race is worth an enormous £340,000. The Diamond Jubilee Stakes is the last of the 8 Group 1 races to be run this year at Royal Ascot.

It is worth noting that we expect the biggest crowd of the week in today, nudging up towards 75,000 people, so expect congestion around the course.

  12. Jockey 'had beer thrown at him'published at 10:23 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

Jockey Andrea Atzeni says a Royal Ascot racegoer threw a pint of beer at him as he made his way to the start of a race.

He said the incident happened before the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes, which was Friday's final race.

"It only just missed my horse, and he meant it," Atzeni told BBC Radio 5 live.

"I was cantering down on the way to the start and some fella threw a plastic glass with beer in it," said Atzeni, who won the preceding Queen's Vase on Stradivarius.

Crowd behaviour was in the spotlight after images of a fight at the track on Thursday went viral online.

A report from the Ascot stewards said they held an inquiry and viewed a recording which showed a plastic glass being thrown from the area of the half-furlong marker.

  14. The best of yesterdaypublished at 10:07 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

Winter and Caravaggio gave trainer Aidan O'Brien and jockey Ryan Moore a big-race double at Royal Ascot.

The English and Irish 1000 Guineas winner Winter (4-9 favourite) took victory in the Coronation Stakes.

The filly completed a Group One treble as she defeated stablemates Roly Poly and Hydrangea for an O'Brien 1-2-3 in a repeat of the Irish Guineas result.

Unbeaten Caravaggio claimed the sixth win of his career with a brilliant turn of foot in the Commonwealth Cup.

  15. And so, we've reached the final curtainpublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

    Adam Whitty
    BBC South

So many events can fizzle out as the final days and hours approach.

Not Royal Ascot, that goes out with a bang.

We have six huge races, a bumper crowd, and the chance of Her Majesty The Queen picking up a winner.

Plenty to get excited about, then.
