It's been a long old day on the longest day of the year.

But with the fine fashion, incredible hats and mighty fine horse racing, it's been worth the effort.

See you tomorrow, be there or be very square indeed.

Another thrilling finish in the final race of the day, with Baghdad snatching victory by a head.

Andrea Atzeni just pipped Jim Crowley at the line, after a lot of argey-bargey between the horses with a final furlong to go.

Frankie Dettori made a last ditch effort for victory with First Eleven, but the Mark Johnston horse held him off.

"I design and make my hats always, and this year it was dedicated to the Netherlands. There are a lot of flowers, and Pedro the Parrot is sitting somewhere.

Pedro the Parrot, by the way, a decoration on the hat, was camera shy.

Paula, accompanied by husband Jonathan, added: "I made my outfit in Beijing some months ago, made in two days. The hat was made in Milan in a day."

Frankie Dettori will have his name on the hallowed wall at Ascot after winning today's Gold Cup.

  10. Consistency the key for Ostiliopublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 21 June 2018

In what seemed like it could be a blanket finish in a race with no clear favourite, Ostilio hugged the inside rail to dominate the entire race.

The rest of the field expected him to come back, but he carried on lengthening, and credit should go to Sylvester De Sousa for a solid race.

Another thrilling, exciting race (we have seen many of those this week), with another tight finish for second and third.

    Britannia Stakes, 17:00

It’s fair to say the Britannia Stakes (17:00) is a tricky puzzle to solve.

Crack On Crack On will look to crack on to a third win of the season for trainer Clive Cox after victories at Lingfield and Haydock last month,

George Of Hearts, Completion and Sam Gold are among a host of others with chances.

There is very much a carnival feeling about the event down by the Grandstand. There is live music, and a carousel.

Lisa, Nicola, Sam and Sarah-Jane are rather enjoying themselves, taking selfies on board horses less tricky to manage than others here.

"Royal Ascot makes you so proud to be British," Nicola, a regular, said. "The highlight, as ever, was the Queen... and winning some money of course".

Frankie Dettori punched the air as he crossed the line for his 60th Royal Ascot winner, on Stradivarius in the Gold Cup.

Dettori, 47, was claiming the big race for the sixth time - and he triumphed after an epic battle up the home straight.

Stradivarius, trained by John Gosden, had enough to see off runner-up Vazirabad, and long-time leader Torcedor in third.

The 2016 winner and last year's runner-up Order Of St George could only finish fourth.

Will Order Of St George be the order of the day in the week’s big race – the GoldCup (16:20 BST)?

The classy stayer, trained by Aidan O’Brien, was second in this contest last year to Big Orange having won 12 months earlier.

Stradivarius and Vazirabad are among his opponents.

  20. Best of Royal Ascot: Big Orange's triumph in Gold Cup epicpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 21 June 2018

At last year's Royal Ascot, we witnessed an absolute classic that will live long in the memory.

Big Orange, ridden by James Doyle for trainer Michael Bell, held on for a memorable triumph after a gripping battle in the final furlong with Order Of St George.

    How tight is that!

Aidan O'Brien's horse, with Ryan Moore in the saddle, kept on closing but Big Orange won by the tiniest of margins.

"It was a fantastic moment." said the BBC's Cornelius Lysaght.

"Big Orange has a heart the size of a lion, has a fantastic name, and it all came together very well. It’s a pity he is not in the position to defend his trophy this year."
