It looks like If The Cap Fits has pipped Roksana and Apple's Jade on the line. Wow what a race. Sean Bowen is fighting back the tears as he's being interviewed.

It has been noticeable how relaxed and happy top jockey Ruby Walsh has been this week. Walsh, who is 40 next month - a similar age to his pal and 20-time champion jockey AP McCoy when he retired - knows he may not ride in too many more Nationals.

He will be on board Rathvinden in the big race as he seeks a third victory after winning in Papillon in 2000 and Hedgehunter five years later.

  8. Can Apple's Jade return to form?published at 15:29 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

    Ryanair Stayers' Hurdle (15:40 BST)

Apple's Jade has a chance to put his poor Champion Hurdle performance at Cheltenham last month behind him. Finishing sixth to eventual winner Espoir D'Allen, Jack Kennedy pushed early on and she didn't find anything.

Sam Spinner was a brilliant second to Paisley Park in the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham and if he emulates that run he will go very close.

  9. Jockey's briefingpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 6 April 2019

The 40 jockeys in the big race have had their briefing from the BHA: 'Don't go too hard into the first fence. Pull up if the horse is getting too tired.'

We're now under two hours until the big race and I imagine those nerves will be beginning to jangle.

The best jumper in the line-up for a trainer who has won the race twice, Go Conquer comes into the National after probably his best run ever last time.

Lining up for a trainer who won the race in 2013, more importantly Vintage Clouds was the subject of a vivid racing dream I had - and the previous two times that has happened, the horses won. Will I get up the 'mystic treble'?

Tipster of the year Rob Wright

    The Times

"Rathvinden, a classy stayer who jumps well, has an awful lot going for him and rates much the most likely winner of the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree today.

"He travelled with ease throughout when winning the four-mile National Hunt Chase at last season’s Cheltenham Festival, staying on too strongly for the redoubtable Ms Parfois.

"Rathvinden looked as good as ever when making a winning return in the Bobbyjo Chase — a race that Mullins used as a prep run for Hedgehunter — at Fairyhouse in February, easily beating the useful Alpha Des Obeaux.

"That success came after the weights were framed for the National and, if the handicapper was able to reassess Rathvinden’s rating, he would give him another 5lb to carry now."
