Couldn't get a babysitter! We've all been there, Bradley.

What a shame his nearest and dearest couldn't be there in person, but sure they're bursting with pride as they follow the action from home.

Bradley Gibbs rode the horse he owned to victory. What a story!

  4. 'Unbelievable'published at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2023

Winning jockey Bradley Gibbs speaking to ITV Racing: "Unbelievable. The worst part of it was my partner and son hasn't come today because they couldn't get a babysitter and my dad is in hospital. I wish they could have been here.

"Unbelievable. We came here last year thinking we had a chance. Everything has to be tight for him, he got stage fright but now he has come today and a completely different horse. We always thought he was good enough to win a big race."

Could it be (Premier) Magic, now? And hold on fast!

Who saw this coming! The 66-1 shot romps down the straight, perhaps helped by the shenanigans behind, to win for owner Bradley Gibbs.

Anyone out there had a fiver on him? The round is on you tonight.

    16:10 - St James's Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters' Chase, 3m 2 1/2f

After the excitement of the Gold Cup, it is time for the amateur riders to take centre stage again.

Twelve months ago, Billaway won this one for Patrick Mullins after previously finishing second twice and is well fancied to retain his crown.

While the Mullins team are no strangers to the winners’ circle, Vaucelet’s trainer David Christie is yet to enjoy Festival success and he and jockey Barry O’Neill suffered heartbreak when Winged Leader was overcome in the final strides by Billaway last year.

Another jockey with plenty of experience Will Biddick could figure on Famous Clermont and there has been money for the Gordon Elliott-trained The Storyteller, ridden by another stalwart Jamie Codd.

Phew! How are we all feeling after that rollercoaster of emotions? Let's hope, like Galopin Des Champs, you have plenty left in the tank.

  15. 'Hopefully come back next year as favourite'published at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 17 March 2023

Galopin Des Champs wins the Gold Cup

Winning trainer Willie Mullins, speaking to ITV Racing: "We put ourselves under pressure by saying he had enough stamina to win a Gold Cup, he had enough class to win a Gold Cup.

"I didn't realise how much pressure until about the third last. He flew through and I thought it is going to happen.

"Through the race you are wondering if he is too far back but I had asked Paul to settle him. He had the fastest horse and just needed to ride him home and that is what he has done. "Paul is so good under pressure and I have put him under pressure this week!

"We don't do as much fast work this year, it is all about stamina. The horse is just relaxed, Paul gets them relaxed and puts them asleep, although I did wonder if we had overdone it at the halfway, we were a long way off.

"We won the Gold Cup this year, you'd like to think we come back next year as favourite and win it but you need a lot of luck. I am just delighted he did what he did."

Time for the presentation of the Gold Cup. The official snappers don't have to encourage Paul Townend, Willie Mullins and Audrey Turley to smile for the camera...

The team behind Galopin Des Champs cannot wait to get their hands on that century-old, nine-carat, 644-gram cut of gold.

Cheers from the watching crowd as the Gold Cup is hoisted towards the bright blue sky.

All the hard work is for this moment.
