Not much to be happy about after the team miscalculated the time left to set a qualifying time in group one, but he does lead the championship still by one point...

Formula E driver Mitch Evans says not getting to Formula 1 will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Evans, 25, who will try to protect his championship lead in the Marrakesh E-Prix on Saturday, said the journey to F1 is "brutal".

He told BBC Sport: "It was tough. I worked so hard and got so close, but Formula E was starting to grow and Jaguar gave me a lifeline.

"F1 is brutal - I've beaten a lot of the guys in the [F1] championship."

  11. Track advantage makes all the difference... up to 2%published at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

Audi team boss Allan McNish, sheds some light on Jaguar's problem of striking the balance between getting the track advantage and managing to cross the line in time to set a lap time.

Do those final few seconds in the pit matter in qualifying? "Yes and that's a simple fact" he said.

"We were talking about how difficult the grid is at this moment in time you can't leave anything on the table at all.

"We are looking at the absolute details the tenths and millimeters and specifications on the car and the timings to get out - it's very clear the last car has got the best track advantage and we saw that through the course of the season - up to two percent between the first and the last car and we can't give away 0.1 of a percent let alone two percent and that was ultimately what they were going for and it cost them on this occasion."

  17. 'Obviously I'm furious'published at 13:47 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February 2020

A very unhappy Mitch Evans spoke to Nicki Shields after his qualifying nightmare.

He said: "We need to look into it obviously, to be honest I thought I did cross the line before the chequered flag.

"I thought I had margin so it's a bit of a surprise and obviously I'm furious. My lap time was a 1:17.309 so I should be clear. We need to look into it but in that situation we shouldn't be making these mistakes."

What can he do from the back of the grid?

"We'll have to wait and see."

Caspar Battam: #bbcformulae How does qualifying work? When I watched on the BBC sport app there where just 6 cars going 1 at a time? What's all that about?

Qualifying works in groups, four groups of drivers will go out individually and try and set their fastest laptime, and the quickest ones will go through to superpole for one more lap to battle it out for pole position.
