Monaghan have been so clinical. Rian O'Neill has been unmarkable for Armagh but they have to take all their chances. Monaghan have scored from all their openings and look like they will do so all game.

The waterbreak was definitely needed in the stifling heat but it has interrupted the flow from a wonderful 15 minutes of Championship football.

Both sides have hit wides as they try and find their range once again.

    20 minutes on the clock.

Right, we're back underway in Newry.

The thing is, despite the scoreline, Armagh haven't even played badly but the Monaghan attack has been so clinical.

Jarly Og Burns brings the margin down to six with a good point from play.

Talk about a tough start for Shea Magill, brought in to replace Blaine Hughes who was Man of the match in Armagh's quarter-final win over Antrim.

Shipped three goals and a couple of wayward kick-outs have aided Monaghan's cause, but Armagh's problems run far deeper than a change of goalkeeper.

That's blistering stuff from Monaghan. Never will Armagh have been so glad to see a water break, Kieran McGeeney will have a few choice words you might think.

Forget the players, we need the waterbreak to come!

Rian O'Neill kicks a free to keep Armagh in touch and there is the first break in play. That was relentless.

    Armagh 0-07 Monaghan 3-06

    It's three goals for Monaghan!

Jack McCarron is so unselfish as he sends his marker out of the stadium with a class side step before keeping his cool to set up Michael Bannigan to fist the ball home.

Three goals in 15 minutes, this is incredible!

    Ohh, nice!

Jemar Hall has an effort well blocked but it falls to Rian O'Neill, probably the last player Monaghan wanted to see pick it up, and he strokes one between the posts under pressure.

    As cool as you like!

Dessie Ward and Rian O'Neill are the next two to send the ball over the bar at each end.

This is frantic stuff under the Newry sun.

Monaghan aren't hanging about here! Jack McCarron gets their second goal on 10 minutes!

The forward had just stuck over a point and he capitalises on a poor kick out to round Magill and roll the ball home. Wow.

    The points keep coming.

Dessie Ward sends one over from outside the D and Rory Grugan responds with an easy free for his lofty standards.

Blimey, we've barely played four minutes and both attacks are firing.

Rory Grugan sticks the ball over the bar after Ryan Wylie punched the ball off his own goal line, which is quickly cancelled out by Conor McCarthy at the other end.

For good measure, Rian O'Neill sticks over a free to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Surely they can't keep it up in this heat. Or can they?

  13. Goal!published at 16:06 British Summer Time 17 July 2021

    Armagh 0-01 Monaghan1-01

Wow! Monaghan surge forward on a counter attack and Conor McManus side steps goalkeeper Shea Magill before tucking the ball into the unguarded net.

Not content with that, he then sticks over a point over the bar too. What a start in Newry!

  17. Who will handle the heat?published at 15:54 British Summer Time 17 July 2021

    Armagh v Monaghan (16:00 BST)

Is there such a thing as too hot?

Thankfully there will be a waterbreak in each half to let the players cool down. They'll really need it today and the heat is bound to drain the usual levels of energy out of the players' legs.

We're knackered and we're sitting down. It's that warm out there.

An unsurprisingly subdued atmosphere inside Pairc Esler as we approach throw-in.

News of the fatal two car collision involving Brendan Óg Duffy is so unspeakably sad that you can't help but wonder what is going through the heads of the Monaghan players after what will have been an extremely difficult day so far.
