  1. Until tomorrow...published at 21:05 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

Kerry and Monaghan through to last four

Well, that was a dramatic end to today's All-Ireland quarter-final double-header at Croke Park as Monaghan beat Armagh 9-8 on penalties to go through to the last four.

There was next to nothing between the sides throughout an incredibly close encounter that ended 0-14 to 0-14, and it was perhaps no surprise in the end that a shootout was required to separate them.

That game followed what was a comfortable stroll into the semi-finals for holders Kerry, who saw off 2021 winners Tyrone 2-18 to 0-12.

And we're only at the halfway stage, of course, with another double-header feast to come back at GAA headquarters tomorrow.

We'll pick up where we left off at lumchtime on Sunday with live text commentaries and reports from Cork v Derry and Dublin v Mayo.

Rest up. We go again tomorrow.

  2. Monaghan have quality - Murphypublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

Monaghan beat Armagh 9-8 on penalties

    Michael Murphy on GAAGO:

I mentioned it last week when they did it against Kildare, when you do it once maybe there's an element of luck. When you do it twice, well fair play you've done it again but to keep doing it and grinding, these are one-point games on a weekly basis.

Monaghan have quality all over that pitch.

  3. 'An unbelievable win' - Murphypublished at 20:56 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

Monaghan beat Armagh 9-8 on penalties

    Michael Murphy on GAAGO:

What a save from Beggan. A cruel way to lose the game but a fantastic way to win the game. Whether people like penalty shootouts or hate them, they're in the rule book now.

It's a warning to both teams. Teams need to continually practice them. The standard and quality of the penalties today were absolutely incredible.

So unfortunate for Armagh to lose in that regard but credit to Monaghan there, an unbelievable win.

  4. Armagh fall shortpublished at 20:47 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

Monaghan beat Armagh 9-8 on penalties

It's 18 years since Armagh last played in an All-Ireland semi-final and that wait will go on for the Orchard County after this defeat.

That's a tough one to take for Kieran McGeeney and his men.

You could see the disappointment on their faces.

Aidan Forker has been named man of the match but that will be little consolation to him.

    There it is!!!

Rory Beggan saves from Callum Cumiskey to send Monaghan through to the semi-final.

It's more penalty heartache for Armagh who lose their third shootout in 12 months, with Callum Cumiskey having both of his penalties saved by Beggan.
