  1. Tyrone win completes Sunday sweep for Ulster sidespublished at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Tyrone 0-17 Roscommon 1-11

Tyrone's battling Division One win over Roscommon completed a Sunday sweep for Ulster sides after Donegal's Division Two dismissal of Cork and victories for Antrim and Down in Division Three.

And in fact, there were no Ulster losers on the opening weekend of the Allianz Football League with Fermanagh having to settle for a Division Two draw in Meath but otherwise it was a tale of total success for the northern province.

The Derry and Monaghan squads must have been in chipper form on their respective bus journeys from Tralee and Croke Park after their stirring Saturday night wins over Kerry and All-Ireland champions Dublin.

With Mickey Harte on the sideline at Austin Stack Park, the Oak Leafers withstood a second-half Kingdom comeback as Shane McGuigan's last-gasp point secured a dramatic 0-15 to 2-8 victory.

We couldn't have imagined the excitement of that being topped but those redoubtable men from Monaghan - despite being without Rory Breggan - did precisely just that as they clinched a remarkable 3-9 to 1-14 over Dublin to also avenge their All-Ireland semi-final defeat last July.

Armagh edged out Louth in the opening instalment of League action on the BBC iPlayer with Cavan also successful in their Division Two opener as they overcame Kildare at Dr Cullen Park.

Ulster GAA fans will be hoping for more of the same next weekend when Sunday's games will include Derry boss Harte hoping to overcome his native Tyrone at Celtic Park.

It should be another thrilling weekend and we'll hope you'll join us back in text commentary land.

    Tyrone 0-17 Roscommon 1-11

New Tyrone captain Peter Harte admitted he was "delighted" after the Red Hands grafted out an opening Division One win over Roscommon despite Conn Kilpatrick's sending off early in the second half.

"It took a fair bit of hard work and determination in that last 20 minutes but fair play the boys stood up and we pushed on," Harte told TG4's GAA Beo.

Like Brian Kennedy, the skipper hailed the contribution of Tyrone's six league debutants Conall Devlin, Aidan Clarke, Tarlach Quinn, Ben Cullen, Seanie O'Donnell and Ciaran Daly.

"They were brilliant. I thought any one of them could have been man of the match today," added Harte.

"They worked hard, kept it simple, did the right things. We’re delighted to have that calibre of player to come along."

  3. Kennedy hails youngsters as 14-man Tyrone triumphpublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Tyrone 0-17 Roscommon 1-11

Midfielder Brian Kennedy was undoubtedly one of Tyrone's heroes today but he says the side's six League newcomers all equipped themselves well.

"The young lads stepped up today. They all scored from play or contributed very well. Ben Cullen, Ciaran Daly stepped up to the mark very well," Kennedy told TG4's GAA Beo.

"It was very windy and wet. It was difficult to play in the first half and the second half but we adapted well – especially in the second half when we were the man down.

"We got the scores at the right time then and it’s good to get over the line.

"Peter Harte controlled the game. Wee Darragh Canavan stood up well whenever the chips were down and got us a few vital scores but it was overall, a good team performance."
