And of course as soon we put up the Donegal team comes news of two late changes and one of them is a particularly big blow for the home side as star forward Oisin Gallen drops out.

The in-form Gallen, who in truth was the only bright spot of Donegal's 2023 campaign, is replaced by Daire O Baoill while Domhnall Mac Giolla Bhride starts in place of Oisin Caulfield.

  8. Team newspublished at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Donegal v Cork (13:45 GMT)

Jim McGuinness is back in charge of Donegal and it adds an extra layer of showbiz to this already crunch Division Two fixture between two sides with ambitions of reaching the top tier.

McGuinness makes one change to the Donegal side that lost to Derry in the Dr McKenna Cup final last Sunday and it's a boost as Brendan McCole comes back in at full-back in place of Karl Joseph Molloy.

However the Tir Chonaill are without Michael Langan and Jason McGee who both are absent from the 26 named in the match programme, leaving a huge gap in the middle of the field.

Goalkeeper Gavin Mulreany, Kevin McGettigan, Ciaran Moore, Oisin Caulfield and Odhran Doherty are handed League debuts by McGuinness.

John Cleary's Cork are boosted by a McGrath Cup final success over Kerry last weekend and can call on Brian Hurley and Cathal Maguire who were beaten in the All-Ireland Club semi-final with Castlehaven earlier this month.

If, there are any changes to the teams closer to throw in we'll keep you updated.

Donegal: Gavin Mulraney; Mark Curran, Brendan McCole, Kevin McGettigan; Ryan McHugh, Caolan McGonigle, Ciaran Moore; Ciaran Thompson, Oisin Caulfield; Peadar Mogan, Odhran Doherty, Shane O'Donnell; Patrick McBrearty, Oisin Gallen, Jamie Brennan.

Cork: Patrick Doyle; Maurice Shanley, Tommy Walsh, Sean Meehan; Luke Fahy, Rory Maguire, Matty Taylor; Ian Maguire, Colm O'Callaghan; Eoghan McSweeney, David Buckley, Brian O'Driscoll; Ruairi Deane, Conor Corbett, Chris Og Jones.

Derry manager Mickey Harte praised his team's performance in beating Kerry in the Allianz Football League Division One opener in Tralee.

The newly promoted Ulster side avenged their All-Ireland semi-final defeat by Kerry by winning 0-15 to 2-8 in Tralee.

"It was important that our players gave an A-game performance and I think they did that," said Harte.

"It would have been a travesty is we didn't get something out of that game - we worked hard enough to get a win."

  19. Team newspublished at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Limerick v Antrim (12:30 GMT)

Andy McEntee’s first year in charge of Antrim went well as they retained their Division Three status and reached the semi-final of the Tailteann Cup.

However, having shown what they’re capable of, they will hope to further progress in year two. The Saffrons will want to be in the mix for promotion and that hunt begins today, as they head down to Limerick as slight favourites.

They line-out at close to full strength, as 10 of today’s starting XV started in the Tailteann Cup semi-final defeat against McEntee’s native county Meath.

Limerick dropped down from Division Two last year, but they’re hoping new Jimmy Lee can stop the slide. He takes over the role having managed club side Newcastle West, who won three straight county titles under his leadership.

    Limerick: A O’Sullivan; T McCarthy, S O’Dea, B O’Sullivan; C McSweeney, R Childs, P Maher; T Childs, C Downes; I Corbett, E Rigter, C Fahy; B Coleman, J Naughton, P Nash.

Antrim: M Byrne; R Boyle, E Walsh, K Keenan; M Jordan, J Finnegan, D McAleese; C Hynds, P McAleer; E Hynds, N Burns, Ruairí McCann (Creggan); P McBride, Ruairi McCann (Aghagallon), D McEnhill.

    Referee: S Lonergan (Tipperary).

  20. Saffrons start action on busy Sundaypublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Good afternoon and welcome to our coverage of today's Allianz National League openers with four Ulster sides in action.

We begin with Antrim's trip to face Limerick in Rathkeale - Andy McEntee's side impressed in last year's Tailteann Cup but the manager bemoaned the "attitude" of his players in the recent McKenna Cup defeat by Fermanagh.

It's then on to Division Two and the tasty encounter between Donegal and last season's All-Ireland quarter-finalists Cork.

Donegal is buzzing with Jim McGuinness back at the helm and it promises to be cracker in Ballybofey.

Back to Division Three and Down start another bid for promotion with an away game against Wicklow in Aughrim.

Down came close to Tailteann Cup success but lost out to Meath in the decider - victory in that game would have meant a highly promising first year in charge for Conor Laverty.

It's a top-flight affair for our final match as Tyrone welcome Roscommon to Healy Park.

Key players left the Red Hands squad over the winter they start today's game without the injured Mattie Donnelly and suspended Darren McCurry.

We'll bring you the latest as it happens - thanks for joining us.
