    Philip McCallen
11-time race winner at the NW200

There will be two boys definitely fighting at the front and you could see a couple more in there as well.

You could see someone in the last lap having to knock off because of a tyre problem.

    Glenn Irwin wins race one

Here's a reminder of the Superbike story so far.

After setting blistering pace in Thursday's qualifying, many had tipped Superbike honours to be a battle between Glenn Irwin and Davey Todd.

My word, did they deliver in Thursday's opening Superbike race. Davey Todd got the jump off the line before PBM Ducati rider Irwin made his move with at Juniper Hill chicane.

Todd looked to hit back at the same corner on the final lap, but Irwin just held his friend at bay to win his ninth Superbike win in a row.

That brings him level with the late Joey Dunlop and Michael Rutter for the record number of Superbike victories at the North West 200.

We'll be in for a treat if Irwin and Todd have a similar battle today.

Davey Todd and Glenn Irwin are keeping cool at the front of the grid while we wait for racing to get back under way. Both look as chilled out as ever.

Michael Dunlop and Michael Sweeney have decided shelter is the best approach. I don't blame them.

  8. Wind 'going to impact the braking marker'published at 11:58 British Summer Time 11 May 2024

    Lee Johnston
    Five-time winner at the NW200

We haven't seen the wind this strong and in this direction all week.

It probably doesn't impact the gearing in the Superbike that much, but it's going to impact the braking marker definitely.

  9. Dallas taking it all inpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 11 May 2024

Riders, teams and former Northern Ireland and Leeds United footballer Stuart Dallas, who recently announced his retirement, are all taking in the weather during the delay between races.

Dallas is chatting to Gary McCoy, who is having a pretty solid meeting so far. He was seventh in the Supertwin race.

Hailing from Cookstown, Dallas is a big road racing fan, being good mates with Lee Johnston, and is taking the atmosphere in today.

    Philip McCallen
11-time race winner at the NW200

"There is a lot of pressure here today. There is a lot of tension and pressure on everyone, the teams and the riders.

"There are a lot of people here, the top six boys all want to win this race so they're all ready to go.

"You're in full race mode and then they say stop. You somehow have to turn the brain off and relax for a couple of minutes because if you keep going, you're just burning so much energy."

  12. 'We don't quite have the outright power that the full blown Superbikes have''published at 11:41 British Summer Time 11 May 2024

Dean Harrison speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"I didn't get the best of starts in the first Superbike race, but it's getting in the slipstream and using that to my advantage.

"We don't quite have the outright power that the full blown Superbikes have so all we can do is get the head down at the start and try hang in there."

LFC Nate: So great having @Lee_johnston13 on co commentary today. Such a good insight into the racing and strategy.

Mike Taylor: It is utterly compelling. There are moments when I feel like can’t bear to look, but also can’t take my eyes off it, at the same time. And in some of the most visually stunning landscapes in the country. An amazing event (and looks sensational on TV).

Steve Plater speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"It's nervous times for the riders, they were just about to take their tyre warmers off and they were told to put them back on so there's a hold-up around the course.

"They're tingling, they're buzzing and I think we're going to see another two horse race, but we might see a different outcome."

    Lee Johnston Q&A

We’re gutted you’re not doing the North West 200. Will you be fit for the Isle of Man TT? -Arron

Lee Johnston: "The short answer – I don’t know."

How do you sleep with the cage on your broken leg at night? -Phil

LJ: "Uncomfortably, if I’m honest. I’ve tried loads of different things with a towel, with a dressing gown, with a quilt, with loads of different pillows. You just do whatever way you can and there’s lots of tablets, normally."

Ian [Hutchinson] has won races round here and been in front in a lot of races so hopefully he will channel some of those memories and get some confidence from that.

He is in a good solid team, the bikes are good and there is good mature mechanics

There's no extra worries, he just has to focus on himself.

  19. 'I am struggling to get the bike off the line'published at 11:27 British Summer Time 11 May 2024

Michael Dunlop speaking to BBC Sport NI:

"First time on the bike and first real race run and Steve made a lot of big changes to create a diffrent job for today.

"Issue is I am just struggling to get the bike off the line, it's not an issue with the bike it's just the way I'm strapped up, I can't really get off the line.

"The first lap of the Superbike race, I got jammed like a sardine and you just can't let them lads get away as they seem to hammer on then drop the pace and we just need to get with them."

Speaking about his injury: "It's not practical that's for sure. I could have done without it and there's definitely more to come when it's healed."
