It might be a gloomy day at Lagoa and the locals might be back in work after yesterday's postponement, but there is plenty of colour in the stands as the international supporter numbers swell. Will be having a word with them later.

Great noise from the GB fans as the men's quad finish second behind Germany to reach the final.

After Jack Beaumont was a late replacement for the ill Graeme Thomas, that is a huge relief for the crew, who powered away from the rest of the field in the second half of the race.

It will also be welcome news for Jack's dad, Peter, who travelled out here late last week and wanted to see if his son could better his performance in the 1988 Olympics. Peter came fourth in the men's eight final in Seoul.

Both Great Britain and Germany will in the the outside lanes for the final but the main thing is that they are in the final.

The GB team put themselves under a lot of pressure and they delivered. It was a big race for them. They can now regroup and get ready for the big one in a couple of days.

    This is brilliant. Just brilliant.

China's Long Qingquan - all 5ft 1ins of him - lifted a combined world record of 307kg to win Olympic gold in the men's 56kg weightlifting.

His reaction is as good as the lift itself.

Don't try this at home, kids.

Adam Peaty wins 100m breaststroke gold

We had a very proud Olympic nan on BBC Breakfast this morning.

Mavis Williams, the grandmother of gold medalist Adam Peaty, said: "I'm very proud and excited for when he comes home. I'm exhausted.

"I can't explain my feelings. You can't tell anybody what you feel, just so proud.

"He's worked so hard for this. He deserves it. He got what he wanted.

He didn't like the water when he was younger. He used to scream when we put him in the bath and when he got in the pool.

"But he was taken by his mum's friend and he's been going ever since.

    "He's got something special."
