Encouraging start to day two's qualifying for GB's Ed Ling - shooting 23 out of 25 in the penultimate round.

He's currently third in the standings, seeking a top-six place for the semi-finals. Ed will go in the final qualification round at 15:30 BST.

Conditions are much calmer than yesterday - when wind was a major issue - so the majority of the competitors are shooting with a high degree of accuracy. If Ling misses more than two shots in his final round - he could be in trouble, but as it stands, he's doing well.

Overnight, America's swimming sensation Michael Phelps won his 19th Olympic gold medal. He's got more bling than Mr T - and more medals than many countries in the world. Including India and their population of 1.2 billion people...

Theo van de Vendel has been riding brilliantly. For me he was too fast. It was a tight turn, and the worry is when you take it tight that you're gong to hit the fence. For me that was a rider error.

Are there always so many falls?

Another horse and rider down here - Theo van ve Vendel of the Netherlands flies towards a fence far too quickly for his horse Zindane to control the landing.

It looks nasty, seeing them both twisted into a painful crumple. But thankfully everyone's OK.

Britain's Gemma Tattersall winds up her routine with a score that moves her up to fifth overall. There's still plenty of riders to go though, and she picked up two penalties on her run. She'll be disappointed.

And here's another fall! Tim Price of New Zealand goes skidding after taking a tight turn. That's three now. General consensus seems to be the mistakes are coming from the riders.

British numbers one and two Johanna Konta and Heather Watson are in the second round of the Women's singles later (from 15:00 BST). Konta faces Caroline Garcia of France while Watson plays Ukraine's Elina Svitolina.

Britain's Davis Cup star Brit Kyle Edmund is also on court against Taro Daniel of Japan and we will bring you updates from that later.

And if all that wasn't enough, Konta and Watson team up and play in the women's doubles later against the team from Chinese Tapei.

Bit of a shame this for Gemma Tattersall as a bold dart into the water towards the next fence ends in a faltering turn away from the target.

Moments later her horse Quicklook V refuses to jump again. That means two 20 point penalties and that will not help her rise the rankings - a third would mean disqualification.

This is tricky but if you look carefully, you may notice a difference between THIS Chinese flag...

    ... And THIS Chinese flag:

    ChinaImage source, AP

    Ding ding, time's up!

It's the angle of the stars and it has annoyed many Chinese officials and viewers alike.

China’s correct national flag features one large star flanked on the right by an arc of four smaller stars, each tilted to point a tip directly toward the centre of the larger star.

The small stars on Chinese flags in Rio, however, are laid upright—an error that first appeared on a flag waved by the Chinese delegation during Friday’s opening ceremony, but seemingly went unnoticed at the time.

    Oops.

Ooof. That was a real sharp intake of breath as Ireland's Padraig McCarthy and his horse Simon Porloe take a very nasty tumble indeed.

Thankfully both seem OK. Ears pricked and trotting off.

A reminder we'll be seeing Great Britain's Gemma Tattersall up next - you can follow it all here.

This is Allan Kalfabun, the chef de mission of Vanuatu, a small Pacific island near to Fiji.

He's probably the most outstanding character at the regatta, and he's buzzing after Luigi Teilemb's performance as the first rower to represent the country at the Olympics.

Teilemb has just finished third in the men's single sculls repechage, which means his medal chances are over, but even that result has led to Allan beaming with pride. "Third place, wow," Kalfabun said. "That's a great achievement in his first Olympics."

Of course, the way that rowing regattas work means that his Olympics aren't over. In addition to the main quad sculls final, which is the event with the biggest field, there are B,C, D,E and F finals too, so everyone gets a chance to row until the end of the event.

For nations such as Vanuata, it's an important part of their development and Teilemb could still have a shot at some glory.

Kazakhstan's Vladislav Yakolev ended up in the water during the Men's single sculls repechage race. Watch for yourself the moment his race is abruptly ended.

He does appear to have his cap on backwards. I'm not saying the two things are connected, but...

    Can't complain about the backdrop!

Pretty epic setting for the men's trap event over at the Deodoro 'cluster' to the north of Rio - where GB's Ed Ling is in qualifying action this morning.

He's in a strong second after yesterday's opening three rounds, two more to go today before hopefully a semi-final and medal round later.

GB's Peter Wilson won double trap gold at London 2012 whilst Ling's best-ever result is World silver in 2014.

Ling needs to finish in the top six to make it through to semi-finals later today.
